Urbanism ask the CARM a buffer zone in the Mar Menor and limitation of activities (03/08/2016)

A proposal by the mayor, Jose Lopez, the Local Government will approve on Friday the allegations presented the City of Cartagena, through the area of Urbanism, the Comprehensive Management Plan (PGI) of the protected areas of the Mar Menor and Mediterranean coastal strip of the Region, in order that the Autonomous Community will limit the permitted activities around the salt lake and a buffer zone to delimit it.

As the mayor announced a few months ago when concrete measures around the Mar Menor were discussed, the salt lake is the largest natural heritage of the region and, therefore, must be a priority for the regional government.

Therefore, municipal technicians raised in its claims that a buffer zone of the Mar Menor affecting the four coastal municipalities because the city of Cartagena can continue to lead the defense of the Mar Menor, but we can not save ourselves is believed to have secured Lopez.

In addition to the establishment of a buffer zone in the Mar Menor and control activities with a special emphasis on the salt lake, the claims also reflects the measures referred to in the motion adopted unanimously by the Full Council on 30 June the participation of the municipalities in the administrative coordination group proposed;

improvement in the design of marinas, replacing it with sustainable foundations that do not harm the lagoon;

the need for the PGI determine the permitted uses expressly, in addition to the obligation to take into account the existence of contaminated as wetland Lo Poyo soils, promoting their diagnosis and analysis of possible risks in order to establish appropriate measures , among other issues.

As explained by the mayor, if the Comprehensive Management Plan del Mar Menor collects all the measures we propose, we will be changing the trend as the lagoon, which has been deteriorating by the negligence of state and regional administration and conformism of many, will start to be really protected.

At this point, it is important to clarify that all protective measures that include this plan will be mandatory and will be included in the general plans of the Mediterranean municipalities of the Autonomous Community, also in Cartagena.

Hence, our interest in figures supramunicipal security arrangements and no more empty content ads that confuse public opinion are made, the mayor asserted.

The City of Cartagena works by the Mar Menor

In relation to the specific actions taken by the City Council regarding the salt lake, Lopez said that recently, transpired part of the contents of the voluminous dossier refer to Attorney last fall.

It contained Planning and Infrastructure reports that drew attention to the problems and constructions and pipes that had seriously damaged the lagoon and were the subject of environmental records in the Consistorio.¿.

In that documentation, continues to expose the mayor, also it included a complaint that I sent you, the president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, being interested in the promenade discharges Albujón.

The textual response we received was that there was no such spill and not yet producing the spillage, periodic samples were taken with satisfactory results.

The mayor lamented that this is the level.

Last summer discharges today refused and asked forgiveness for the state of the Mar Menor.

What could have been a prolonged work in time, with solutions adopted rationally, calm and whole, today becomes precipitation and a statement of good intentions that leave the designated farmers and the Mar Menor in danger.

Lopez finished arguing that for these reasons we are joint solutions.

We must involve all institutions and stop thinking shortsightedness;

the Mar Menor is a problem of all.

We trust that this will pick up, as a first step in the Comprehensive Plan that the European Union demands from us.
