The Columbares Association and the City of Cartagena have signed an agreement for the launch of a campaign to promote sustainable fishing, from October 2016 to September 2017 will develop different actions to publicize the cartageneros social value , environmental and cultural development of this type of fishing.

The signing took place this morning with Deputy Mayor, Ana Belén Castejon, and the Councillor of Fisheries, Obdulia Gomez, the president of the Columbares Association, Jose Nicholas, as a sign of support of one of the initiatives by betting the new Fisheries Department of the City of Cartagena.

The project to promote sustainable artisanal fisheries conducted various activities for 13 months to make it known among cartageneros: from talk shows on radio where he will talk about species, their importance or capturing them to actions dramatized in fishmongers , markets or restaurants giving an original touch to the promotion;

or performing specific tabs of each species which briefly describe the type of cuisine that can be done with the fish, as indicated by the Councillor of Fisheries, Obdulia Gomez.

In addition, the project aims to value the Marine Reserve of Fishing Interest of Cabo de Palos- Ants Islands, spreading its ecological values, since the only fishery that can be done within the same is artisanal.

Overall, this is an initiative of communication and public awareness that contributes to the survival of the artisanal fleet on the coast of Cartagena and promote a greater appreciation of local fish, encouraging the consumption of seafood with the involvement of the hospitality industry and fishmongers .

As indicated by Ana Belén Castejon, it is doing great things small, aiding and abetting and promote our artisanal fisheries.
