Professors UPCT hydraulic present their research (28/06/2016)

The School of Civil Engineering and Mines of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) hosts this morning a day of seminars Laboratory Network Hydraulic Spain with the participation of scholars of international reference and young researchers from different centers in the network as are different schools of Roads Polytechnic Universities of Madrid (UPM), Catalonia (UPC), Valencia (UPV), University of Coruña (UDC) and Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM).

The network is coordinated by the Hydraulics Laboratory Centre for Hydrographic Studies of Spain and was established under the National Networks Programme National R + D + i in 2008.

Laboratory Network Hydraulics Spain RLHE is an initiative born with the ultimate goal of providing a forum or meeting place for major research centers in hydraulic testing of Spain to detect complementarities, contribute to the strengthening of activity R & D in the specific field of hydraulic engineering and promote applied research projects and technological development and innovation in common in specific areas of the network. in short, is to establish a permanent framework of collaboration between the Spanish institutions most relevant in the area concerned to enhance their ability to serve society.

The seminar includes the presentation of different works grouped in three priority research areas: A) Hydromorphological Criteria for Recovery of Degraded river areas.

B) Risk Associated Urban Runoff.

C) Safety of Dams and Reservoirs.

Hydrologic and hydraulic aspects.

This seminar Cartagena Polytechnic participates with five research developed by teachers Group R & D + i Hid @ m: Luis Castillo, Jose Carrillo, Juan Garcia, Antonio Vigueras and Luis Altarejos.

young researchers Rocio Lopez and Dorota Nowicz, students of the Master of Civil Engineering, Channels and Ports also participate.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena has a powerful equipment for hydraulic studies, including a system of water recirculation for the study of turbulent jets and bowls dissipation of hydraulic power, that allows to reproduce in the laboratory the behavior of prey with a fall up to five meters high, an infrastructure for studying uptake systems in semi-arid areas and one for the study of air injection pipes and equipment for the study of water hammer in pipeline pressure and a channel variable slope.

Recently, the technical manual for the Federal Emergency Management Agency US included several formulations developed by Luis Castillo, head of the Laboratory of Hydraulics of the UPCT, whose research has also helped design and renovation of dams in Ecuador.
