Quality of Life studies the implementation of a system of pet identification by DNA (01/06/2016)

The area councilor Quality of Life, Francisco Calderon, met this morning at the administrative building of San Miguel, with municipal technicians and Rafael Sayago, commercial director of the company that manufactures and develops a system of identification of pets and their owners through DNA.

By the council was attended by the Head of Health Promotion and Municipal Laboratory, Maria Jose Hernandez, the manager of the Center for Care and Treatment of Domestic Animals (CATAD), David Cervantes, the senior technician Laboratory, Nuria Vergara and Maria Encarnacion Larrosa, member of the municipal legal service.

During the meeting, Sayago been exposed by projecting how the process control and identification of pets as well as sampling and the way that has been done in other municipalities where it is already implemented this system will be developed.

Calderon stressed that this measure is being studied by the municipal government to improve public health and that there has been an increase in pet feces in public road and this would be a valid system to identify those responsible.

It would also be complementary to the current system of identification microchip.

Thus, the mascots of the municipality may be identified by their genetic fingerprint in a database so that in case of failure to comply with regulations, identify the owner, who will also be registered in the list, to establish the appropriate penalty.

To complete the process, the area of ​​Quality of Life plans to submit an annex to the ordinance on pets to be approved by the Governing Board and later in municipal plenary.
