New volunteers to work in the leisure of people with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy (20/04/2016)

The Student House of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena received yesterday, Tuesday 19, the closing ceremony of the training course the importance of volunteering in leisure of people with intellectual disabilities and cerebral palsy that has developed this April through collaboration City of Cartagena and the SOI UPCTcon Foundation.

The ceremony was attended by President of the Foundation, Juan Carrasco;

the Vice Chancellor of students UPCT Francisco Martinez;

and the coordinator of Social Services, Damián Pérez, besides the volunteers who have received this training period.

The course has been designed to facilitate community inclusion of these people outside their usual environment (family and association) and to enable the creation of new social relations, increase social sensitivity and, ultimately, to train volunteers.

The objectives that have sought to achieve through the course were:

Attendees bring the world of disability to allow greater knowledge on this subject.

Promote a change in the vision we have of people with disabilities.

Sensitize participants on decision-making and supports they need people with disabilities to improve their lives.

Sensitize participants on the reality of people with disabilities in relation to leisure on susderechos to promote and ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the entertainment community.

Sensitize participants on the importance of cognitive accessibility design for all, so that the environments are favorable and ensure the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the community.

Promote participation in leisure from volunteering for people with disabilities have the opportunity to have more support and expand their relational circle.

The SOI Foundation, organizer of the course, is a non-profit organization that, through its Service Inclusive Leisure, enables people with intellectual disabilities and / or cerebral palsy, over 16 years, to participate in leisure activities they themselves choose and share with other citizens.
