Cartagena held a community meeting to promote coexistence in the neighborhoods of Old Town and Sector Station (06/04/2016)

The social reality and the problems and concerns of the central sector and the railway sector were the central themes of the event which took place this morning in the auditorium Isaac Peral of the Faculty of Business of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena , with the public presentation of the Community Monograph and Community Diagnosis of the neighborhoods of Old Town and Sector Cartagena cohabiting present, building the future, a detailed study of the current situation of these neighborhoods (from the perspective of its structural characteristics Station, its history, demography, social movements, socio-educational, community health, employment ...), and also collects some of the keys and strategies to improve the state of coexistence and social cohesion in the mismos.Por afternoon at 20.00 hours, the Ceremonial Hall of the City of Cartagena will host a new exhibition of the findings.

This public presentation took place today, April 6, during the celebration of a community meeting space for debate and reflection in which more than a hundred people, and part of the set of actions that are being developed within the Community Intervention Project Intercultural driving the Obra Social La Caixa and develops the City of Cartagena and Cepaim Foundation.

The event was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez;

the rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Jose Antonio Franco;

Cepaim director of the Foundation, Juan Antonio Segura Lucas;

and, by deCaixaBank, the technical coordinator of Scientific Management Team ICI, José Manuel Alamo.

In addition, also they attended by Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejon;

Councilman Area Quality of Life, Francisco Calderon;

and the Councillor for Social Services, Maria del Carmen Martin;

as well as other members of Municipal laCorporación.

During the day, it has released the Community Monograph, based on a open to work and permanent construction document, which collects and organizes knowledge there is about these two neighborhoods, to help understand their present and from there , to jointly address the future.

The mayor of Cartagena, Jose Lopez, who has always shown its support for this project, said at the ceremony today multiculturalism multiculturalism should be changed.

According to Lopez, we have lived through a stage in which all we advocated for multiculturalism, now we have to try to be a real union, that mainstreaming groups to one another as a single mass that is today's society, the society of the XXI century.

The main objective of both the meeting and the Community Monograph, is to promote, through knowledge, intercultural citizen laconvivencia in Old Town and Sector Station, neighborhoods with great wealth and cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious, which require intervention processes Community to be places where their neighbors feel protagonists, supported and opportunities for development and promotion.

Project Intercultural Community (ICI), promoted by la Caixa Social Work in collaboration with public administrations and social organizations, began in 2010 and is being developed in 39 territories of Spain.

In the case of Cartagena, it began in July 2014. It should be noted that the Draft Intercultural Community (ICI) aims to launch a community process to promote intercultural civic coexistence in Old Town and Sector Station, neighborhoods which they have a great cultural diversity.

In these contexts, the processes of cohesion and community intervention are essential for the neighborhood is a place where your neighbors feel integrated, supported and development opportunities.

At the meeting, they have released the main results which includes the Community Monograph, and that will help us understand the present of these neighborhoods, and from there, to jointly address their future.

In the coming months, this knowledge will be the basis to give way to jointly define a series of actions and measures that will be specified in the Community program, a document that will answer some of the challenges in the extended essay and community diagnosis.

Attendees concurred on the importance of the active participation of all stakeholders in the life of the neighborhood and have highlighted his gaze should be directed to the community and to the people, not only to address the integration and cohesion social, but also to avoid possible conflict scenarios, always in favor of coexistence and welfare of the community.

In this sense, optimize response capabilities of the community, put citizens as agents of change, connect and know the reality, agree actions, promote closeness, create links, identify what unites us, put the emphasis on common and be aimed at the welfare and progress of the community, are some of the ideas that have been repeated throughout the day, which has been characterized as a time for encounter, dialogue, analysis and decision awareness of the reality of these neighborhoods by attendees.

Throughout the process of preparing the study, involving more than 400 people (representatives of public authorities, local and regional, social organizations and neighbors), who through more than 50 working sessions have contributed their knowledge and insight these neighborhoods.
