[The City Council will expand the Hospitality Service Office so that the aid reaches more entrepreneurs (12/01/2021)

| The mayor has met with the presidents of COEC and Hostecar to analyze the situation in the sector | The Cartagena City Council will expand the Hospitality Service Office with the aim that both municipal aid to pay the water and garbage bill, as well as other municipal, regional and state aid to which they have option, they can reach the largest possible number of hoteliers in the municipality. The mayor, Ana Bel n Castej n, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Noelia Arroyo, and the first deputy mayor, Manuel Pad n, met this morning with the president of the Confederation of Business Organizations of Cartagena ( COEC), Ana Correa, and with the president of the Association of Hoteliers of Cartagena and Comarca (Hostecar), Juan Jos L pez, to analyze the aids that have been launched and study new proposals, within the municipal powers, including the expansion of this office. In addition, municipal technicians will train Hostecar representatives to offer hoteliers all the information about the aid they can access and about the necessary procedures to obtain them so that they can transfer this information to the greater possible number of hoteliers. “The Hospitality Service Office is doing a great job, but we have detected that it does not reach as many employers and workers as we would like.

For this reason, we are going to expand it with the aim that as many hoteliers as possible opt for the aid we offer them, ”explained the mayor, Ana Bel n Castej n. The City Council has already exempted hoteliers from paying the rates for street occupancy, during the years 2020 and 2021; of the rates for change of ownership of the business; of the license fees for new business activity; and the payment of water and garbage bills during the time they are closed, being the only public administration that has eliminated the payment of taxes linked to the hospitality sector. HOME SHOPPING In addition, the City Council has offered the launch of campaigns to promote online shopping and take away meals with the aim of helping the sector during the current health and economic crisis, which has led the regional government to decree the closure of bars and restaurants, except for home delivery and take away services. Likewise, a technical table will be created made up of hoteliers and City Council staff, which will meet next Friday, January 15, to address the analysis of any other fiscal and social measure that can be put into practice.

It is within the municipal powers and that, as the mayor has advanced "it will only depend on the technical feasibility of the proposals, because we approved the Budget so that the economic issue would not be a hindrance" . It should be remembered that Hostecar was already working on the draft for the new ordinance for the use of public water, on which Castej n has explained that “another issue that we believe we must address is the reform of the Ordinance of the V Public Service to improve important issues, such as the location of the terraces on a different sidewalk than the one where the bars are located, something that until now is not allowed.

We want to offer them all the facilities so that this crisis can be overcome with the best guarantees ”. In this sense, the City Council has offered to mediate with the banking entities in order to achieve novation of existing credits that establish grace periods while the effects of COVID-19 last, for this it offers all the infrastructure of the hospitality aid office. It has also been made available to businessmen and hoteliers to bring to the Regional Federation of Municipalities (FMRM) and the State Federation of Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) everything they consider necessary. During the appearance, the president of COEC thanked the City Council for their predisposition “because these are very difficult moments and you always listen to us, you pay attention to us and you have taken fiscal measures from scratch.

In addition to the tax issue, we must talk about people, because entrepreneurs and their families are people and we need help. Correa has also thanked "the Office for Hospitality for the support and help they are providing, because here we are all the organizations to help and support." We have to be united and working together, that is why we are going to carry out a communication campaign so that businessmen, hoteliers, hoteliers know that they are not alone and so that citizens know that we can continue to sell online, for WhatsApp, by phone, etc, and we are going to bet on our businessmen and hoteliers today and always ”. The mayor concluded by recalling that both hoteliers and merchants "know they are not alone because we are not going to leave anyone in the gutter and we are very grateful for this new sacrifice that they are forced to make to stop the contagion curve" .
