| The smart crossings are located in the Capital Ripoll, Pio XII and Pescader a streets to reinforce their safety conditions and thus avoid more accidents occur | The Cartagena City Council through the areas of Public Road, Sustainable City and Infrastructures, has transformed three pedestrian crossings located in the center of the city, into intelligent pedestrian crossings, which ignited the past Monday, December 21 for the first time its lights at dusk, causing the surprise of drivers and pedestrians. The new zebra crossings are interconnected by a fiber optic network, with an installation of lights on both sides, which turn on when a pedestrian crosses the road to increase visibility at dusk.
The facility is also prepared to incorporate technology for measuring environmental and traffic data that allows decision-making on mobility. The smart steps are located in the Capital streets Ripoll, Pio XII and Pescaderíaa to reinforce their safety conditions and thus avoid further accidents. El paso de Capitanes Ripoll crosses four lanes, is one of the largest and busiest in Cartagena.
Pio XII, in the connection with the Concepci n neighborhood, is very frequented because it is pedestrian access to Navantia and El Arsenal.
The passage on Calle Pescader a is considered of interest because it is used by CIM students and by users of the Mental Health Center. The initiative, which is part of the “Cartagena sustainable and smart city” strategy, has been accelerated in order to comply with the recent plenary agreement through which, in response to the demands of the Navantia company committee and the deceased worker, the Government undertook to reinforce security at the accesses to the factory. The pedestrian crossings, in which 34,000 euros have been invested, have been chosen by the Traffic specialists of the Local Police based on their safety characteristics and level of use.
