[The Local Board of Immigrant Women gives visibility to Migration Day (18/12/2020)

| Due to the current socio-sanitary situation, there will be no face-to-face act for the commemoration of this day, December 18, but it has produced a collage with photos of migrant women residing in Cartagena aimed at raising awareness on the subject | This Friday, December 18, the International Day of the Migrant is commemorated and, for this reason, the Local Board of Immigrant Women has wanted to join the celebration by giving visibility to the event. To do this, and given that the current social and health situation does not allow the organization of face-to-face events, a collage with photographs has been designed under the slogan, "Hope, Dreams and Future", with faces of migrant women living in Cartagena, women from different origins that have in common that they have started their migratory project in search of a better life and greater opportunities for themselves and their families. It must be remembered that, according to the United Nations (UN), migration "is an expression of individual determination to overcome adversity and seek a better life." This work aims to raise awareness and motivate reflection on migrants, understanding that we should not only think of them as numbers, as people outside of us, we are all part of the same community and we have to work together to make it a welcoming place, where mutual help and support, intercultural coexistence and respect for diversity are a reality. The Local Board of Immigrant Women, is a working group coordinated by the Immigration and Development Cooperation Unit of the Council of Social Services of the Cartagena City Council, formed by social entities of the city that work with migrant women : Cepaim, Accem, Rascasa, Abrah m Project, C ritas La Palma, Fisat, Columbares, Murcia Acoge, Federation of Cartagena and Comarca Neighborhood Associations, Council of Equality and Promotion Workshops for Women Immigrants from the Intercultural Centers of the Cartagena City Council. The Local Board works to understand the reality of migrant women living in Cartagena, design actions that promote their interaction and promote the participation of migrant women in civic life.
