[The City Council will excavate the Monte Sacro and what remains of the Molinete (15/12/2020)

| The archaeological reports of 2005 confirm the buildability of the four plots of the Morer a Baja and the conservation of the remains in basements | The objective of the Government team is to carry out all the archaeological excavation of Monte Sacro and what remains of the Molinete, as explained by the mayor, Ana Bel n Castej n, during the Council of the Old Town Society that was held this Tuesday December 15th.

In this way, the recovery of archaeological remains and the enhancement of both areas will be facilitated. "We have addressed a very important issue for the Municipal Government and for the entire citizenry, we have approved to dismiss the allegations that other groups had made regarding the four plots that this company wants to put out to tender" , highlighted the first mayor. The archaeological studies carried out in 2005 in the plots of Calle Morer a Baja that the Sociedad Casco Antiguo has put up for sale confirm that they are all buildable and that the archaeological remains found can be preserved in the basements of future properties, as explained by the mayor, Ana Bel n Castej n. The parcels on Calle Morer a Baja were excavated in 2005 and evaluated by a specific Technical Commission chaired by the then General Director of Cultural Assets.

In this sense, the mayor explained that "we have a report from the General Directorate of Cultural Assets and municipal archaeologists and technicians, in which they make two issues very clear: the four plots that we put out to tender.

They are already excavated and therefore can be put out to tender "while pointing out that" the plots are in the Morer a and not in the Molinete, therefore I insist we have approved today in the Board of Directors n of Casco Antiguo will put out to tender four plots located on Calle de la Morer a Baja. The Technical Commission was made up of an archaeologist from the CARM Historical Heritage Service; an archaeologist and an architect from the Cartagena City Council and the Professor of Archeology at the University of Alicante. This Commission wrote a report based on the analysis of the archaeological remains during the excavation process, as well as on the Archaeological Report presented to the CARM by the directors of the intervention, where all documented structures were described and interpreted.

The remains have been interpreted as a residential neighborhood, built around several decumans and small gardens that allow circulation along the lower slope of the hill.

Said report includes foundation proposals for future buildings with the aim that archaeological sites can be connected. According to the report issued by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, it is proposed to "re-form a Mixed Technical Commission, as was done in 2005, that will supervise and evaluate all excavations and all what can be protected "concluded the first mayor. In any case, any building project in this area must be appropriately evaluated by the CARM Historical Heritage Service and approved by the General Directorate of Cultural Assets, as explained by Ana Bel n Castej n. The cellars will be transferred to the City Council for the preservation of the archaeological remains.
