[The UPCT adheres to the commitment for the sustainable development of the Port of Cartagena (15/12/2020)

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has signed today together with a dozen other entities a commitment for the sustainable development of the Port of Cartagena.

The joint agreement has been signed by the Rectorate, in an act chaired by the rector, Beatriz Miguel, and the president of the Port Authority, Yolanda Muñoz. The signatory entities are thus committed to incorporating the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda in their organization's strategy to make Cartagena the most sustainable port in the Mediterranean. The UPCT has been supporting and promoting the dissemination of the SDGs since 2018 and committing itself, together with other organizations, to work towards the achievement of these objectives. “The Polytechnic University of Cartagena, Agencia Mar tima Bl zquez, Amarradores, Armada Española, Boluda Towage, Capitan a Mar tima de Cartagena, Enag s, Ership, Engie Energie, Ilboc, Repsol, Navantia, Yacht Port Cartagena and Zamora Company have joined this pact to turn the Port of Cartagena into an environmentally safer and more sustainable space, compatible with the development and exploitation of ports ”, said the president of the APC, Yolanda Muñoz , which has remarked that "we could not do it alone, we needed to extend this commitment to other organizations of the Port, to advance towards a common culture throughout the port community of Cartagena and its link with the city" . This week the conference 'El Puerto, Cartagena's economic engine' is held, in whose inauguration the rector of the UPCT participated this Monday, highlighting the dynamizing role of research on environmental sustainability of the c Chair formed by the Port Authority and the Mare Nostrum Campus. In the last five years the collaboration between the APC and the UPCT has intensified enormously and has materialized in an investment of 230,000 euros for the development of 14 projects in different lines of interest, such as such as noise and underwater traffic, environmental digitization, the environmental impact of cruise ships, underwater robotics, and economic analyzes of the Port's activity.
