Christmas will be felt more than ever in the neighborhoods and county councils with the installation of eleven seven-meter-high trees of light (04/12/2020)

| The City Council has invested 343,597 euros this year to illuminate the municipality and includes the placement of shooting stars on the facades of the Little Sisters of the Poor and the Casa Cuna | Cartagena already begins to dress for Christmas with the installation of a large part of the lighting that will decorate the streets of the municipality during the next festivities.

On this occasion, neighborhoods and county councils will take on even more prominence thanks to the installation of eleven seven-meter-high light trees.

The planned locations for these large cones are Cabo de Palos, El Albujón, La Azohía, Pozo Estrecho, Los Dolores, El Algar, Barrio Peral, Polígono de Santa Ana, La Manga, Los Urrutias and Los Nietos.The mayor Ana Belén Castejón has been in charge of starting the lighting, accompanied by the Deputy Mayor Noelia Arroyo, the Deputy Mayor Manuel Padín, the Councilor for Celebrations, Juan Pedro Torralba, the Councilor for Infrastructure, María Casajús, and the mayor of Culture, David Martínez Noguera, together with the spokesperson, Gonzalo Abad.“Christmas is coming and Cartagena cannot be an exception.

This is a tremendously complicated year in which we have been forced to renounce many things and we will continue to do so, but we cannot renounce the celebration of Christmas, with distance, with security, with responsibility, but celebrating it ”, he stated Castejon.The Cartagena City Council has made an investment in Christmas lighting for this year 2020 of 343,597'05 euros.

It should be noted that, of the elements that have been installed, about 80% are new.

Notable among them is the installation of a 20-meter-high light tree on the City Hall beach; RGB with programmable dynamic lighting including texts and ambient sound; a 14-meter cone in the Plaza de México, in front of the train station; another 10 meters in the Plaza San Francisco and a gift box of 2.2 meters and a Christmas ball of 3 meters in diameter in Plaza Doctor Vicente García Marcos.The mayor has also encouraged the people of Cartagena to do their Christmas shopping in local shops, so that “we are a light that offers hope and enthusiasm and that allows us to promote the joy that these dates require, encouraging our neighbors to approach small businesses , I insist, with distance, security and prudence, always respecting the rules ”.There are also elements that remain, such as the Christmas motif that covers the existing fountain at the end of Carrer del Carmen, although this year the model has been renewed, as well as the 14-meter cone in Plaza de España and the Nativity Scene in the pond.

Juan XXIII square.Another novelty this year are the LED curtains with which some of the most characteristic monuments and facilities of the municipality will be covered, such as the Plaza Severo Ochoa, the monument of the Nautical Station of La Manga or a shooting star in the Juncos park.Thus, for the first time, the 30-meter high mast will be dressed in Severo Ochoa Square, on three of its faces with a white led curtain with flash from its upper end that will bathe these walls up to 5 meters from the ground, in total 320 square meters of curtain.

This same treatment will have the monument dedicated to the Nautical Station, located at the intersection of traffic lights at the entrance to La Manga, which will have another 70 square meters of white led curtain.As for the Juncos park, a shooting star will be installed in the center of the park and, towards the pergola located in the stands, several led strips will start with a total of 200 meters that will simulate the beams of the star itself.As every year, the facade of the House of the Little Sisters of the Poor will show a shooting star.

On this occasion, the façade of the Casa Cuna will also be illuminated with a large Christmas star.

Both installations are due to a disinterested collaboration of the company awarded the contract.Regarding the location of the lighting in the historic center, 189 units are being installed, in the Ensanche 99, in neighborhoods and county councils 87 units and 29 Merry Christmas signs, on the coast 24 units and 7 signs, which means a total 399 Christmas motifs and 36 Merry Christmas signs throughout the municipality
