CORI exposes its projects to the mayor (19/11/2020)

| Ana Belén Castejón has valued the dissemination activity of this research NGO, which focuses on the study of the oceans and is based in Cartagena | The Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, and the Deputy Mayor, Noelia Arroyo, learned about the projects and objectives of CORI, the Cartagena-based research NGO that seeks to expand knowledge of the ocean and bring it closer to society through technological innovation.

The municipal officials have held a meeting with the founder and head of CORI projects, Francisco López.This non-profit research institute was in charge of coordinating the first edition of Ocean Hackaton, an international event that landed only a few weeks ago in Spain with CORI and that Cartagena became the world capital of scientific research in October -technique in oceans.It has a panel of international experts, such as the Americans Kanna Rajan and Zara Mirmalek, or the Portuguese João Sousa, as well as various national and international collaborators.“Although CORI began its journey only a year ago, the great research and dissemination motivation of its experts has already led them to launch several very ambitious projects and to be very clear about their lines of action for the future, of which we have spoken in the meeting that we have held this morning ”, explained the mayor of Cartagena.Thus, among his projects, 'H20.

Health to ocean ', which brings the ocean to hospitalized minors thanks to the live transmission of images of the seabed to the hospital classrooms of Hospital Santa Lucía, or' Low Cost Buoy ', which has the collaboration of the UPCT, the CIFP Hespérides and the IES Politécnico for the construction of a low-cost oceanographic buoy.Both Castejón and Arroyo have shown interest in CORI's projects and have committed to studying ways of collaboration between the Cartagena City Council and the research institute.“Just a month ago, the Ocean Hackaton congress, organized by CORI, allowed the development of a project to geolocate seahorses, a clear example of the great research talent we have.

I am convinced that, from Cartagena, CORI will continue to provide knowledge about our oceans and seas and their conservation, ”concluded the mayor.The project will represent the city of Cartagena in the international final of Ocean Hackaton, in the French city of Brest.
