The UPCT organizes the Mediterranean Night of the Researchers with the 11 most representative research entities of Murcia and the Valencian Community (19/11/2020)

| Meetings between scientists, robotics workshops and virtual reality cinema, among the activities of the Night of the Researchers to put Mediterranean science in value | The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) has prepared a program full of science and technology to celebrate the Mediterranean Night of Researchers "Mednight", to be held on November 27.

This year 12 of the most representative entities of scientific research and dissemination have joined with the aim of highlighting Mediterranean science.The UPCT will organize scientific and technological activities during the month of November.

Among them is a meeting between scientists in which the rector of the UPCT, Beatriz Miguel and the vice-rector for Research, Transfer and Dissemination of the UPCT, Catalina Egea will participate.

Both will talk on November 25 about the role of women in science, the path to equality, what it means to break “glass ceilings”, how to promote the presence of women in science and technology or the importance of research scientific, among others.In addition to that, an activity has been scheduled for November 25, 26 and 27 to publicize virtual reality through the Realida Virtual VR film format.

Participants will be able to watch movies being the center of the action.In the same way, workshops have been programmed to do at home and talks by researchers and students of the UPCT.

These are proposals aimed at those interested in the technological advances that the UPCT is currently developing.

This activity aims to bring science closer to citizens and highlight the importance of research to improve social welfare.

Among them, the activity 'Ultra-efficient cars to improve energy sustainability', 'Cultivating on Mars using hydroponics',' Fraud in honey and other forensic applications of Palynology ',' Much more than stone ',' Do you know what to do before, during and after an earthquake? 'On the other hand, an activity will be developed through which advances in robotics will be known to explore the ocean or a Circular Economy forum in which topics such as the use of 3D printing to make a more sustainable world or citizen science projects that the UPCT has led.

Important companies from the Chair Network such as Hidrogea, Navantia, Repsol and Sabic will participate.The activities will also include technology 4.0 and its application in new technologies.This is the first event that brings together a consortium that includes these public research institutions from the Region of Murcia and the Valencian Community under the seal of event associated with the "European Night of Researchers".This activity has the collaboration of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Science and Innovation.

It is part of the project with reference FCT- 18-14134 called 'Citizen Science for Primary and Secondary Education Centers: Marine Garbage on the Murcian Coast', which is funded by the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT) - Ministry of Science and Innovation.The "Mednight" was born as a result of the collaboration of a consortium formed by the University of Murcia, Polytechnic University of Cartagena, University of Alicante, Miguel Hernández de Elche University, University of Valencia, Polytechnic University of Valencia, Jaume I University, Fisabio Foundation , Seneca Foundation - Agency for Science and Technology of the Region of Murcia, INCLIVA and the Higher Council for Scientific Research, under the coordination of El Caleidoscopio and with the sponsorship of the Generalitat Valenciana through the Fundación de la Comunitat Valenciana para el Fomento of Higher Studies (FFES).The project "Mediterranean Night of Researchers" is an event associated with the initiative "European Night of Researchers" of the European Union, funded by Marie Sk³odowska-Curie actions, with call identifier: H2020-MSCA-NIGHT-2020 The activities in Cartagena are sponsored by the Murcia Regional Assembly, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology FECYT and the Cajamurcia Foundation.
