MC calls for national and European funds for the recovery and modernization of the most needy neighborhoods in Cartagena (18/11/2020)

| Jesús Giménez: "They are essential because we suffer a double recession, due to the pandemic and the abandonment of administrations" | In a week, the deadline granted by the regional administration to those interested in transferring the proposals that will be included in the 'Next Carm' strategy, an initiative on which the "transformative" projects that help to promote the "Region of the future ", in the words of representatives of San Esteban. These actions would finally be incorporated into the Regional Plan that will be sent to the State Government to be considered within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan that will be sent to Europe from Moncloa to articulate the distribution of the European 'Next Generation' fund. In short, it is a new opportunity to encourage the arrival of funds to our environment, an already important circumstance but which becomes essential in a context as delicate as the current one.

This situation, however, does not seem to be enough for the local government, which is silent on municipal participation in the initiative, a fact that has been valued by the deputy spokesperson of the MC Cartagena municipal group, Jesús Giménez. "From MC we continue to offer collaboration and a method for the recovery of Cartagena and the region.

A region in double recession, due to the pandemic and the endemic abandonment of the administrations," Giménez has begun. 37 million for the recovery of precarious neighborhoods In line with the news, the councilor recalled that "we warn that this month 37 million euros have been announced in funds for the recovery of degraded neighborhoods in this Autonomous Community; the recovery funds of the European Union called 'Next Generation ', of which 140,000 million euros correspond to Spain ". In reference to the regional administration, he has reasoned that San Esteban "should allocate to our most punished neighborhoods (San Antón, Barriada Virgen de la Caridad 'Las 600', Los Mateos, Santa Lucía, Lo Campano or Villalba) at least 6 million euros in 2021, if we attend to a population criterion and much more if we attend to the income level, but we do not know if it is being claimed through the municipal government. No news of concurrence to European funds On the other hand, as regards the European recovery funds, which 50% will also be managed by the autonomies, "it is a call that expires in a week (on November 25) and the City Council has not announced that we will go to attend ", stressed the Cartagena leader. In the case of these grants, Jesús Giménez has regretted that "the opposition has not been contacted either for an issue that directly affects the municipality model and that needs consensus, since the funds will run until 2027.

The reality is that the commitment to entrepreneurship, sustainability and for the Cartagena of the future is weighed down by the old political practices of obscurantism and improvisation ". "We will take this question to the Plenary to know what they have unilaterally claimed for Cartagena, its neighborhoods and councils.

We cannot let this train pass," the mayor concluded.
