Cartagena will focus its candidacy for World Heritage of Humanity on defensive heritage (18/11/2020)

From our geographical characterization of our impregnable port, to the landscape, commercial, industrial, archaeological and clearly military characterization, everything is linked to our uniqueness as a strong and defensive place.

That is why we have decided to focus our candidacy on this aspect, which is what has marked the development of our municipality since ancient times ”, highlighted the first mayor.To achieve this objective, the mayor has given clear instructions for the Cartagena World Heritage project to be eligible for the European anti-crisis project, called Next Generation, through the Next CARM funds.“Now more than ever, we have to work hard and tenaciously to ensure that Cartagena joins the privileged group of places recognized by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.

Given the enormous health, social and economic crisis that we are experiencing, we need exciting projects that generate confidence in our municipality, hope in the promising and security for investors who want to bet on Cartagena, ”said Castejón.The Monitoring Commission, which was also attended by the deputy mayor, Noelia Arroyo, the first deputy mayor, Manuel Padín, the general director of Strategic Heritage Projects of the City Council, Damián Pérez, and representatives of the Tourism and Culture departments, It has also decided to commission the writing of the dossier for the candidacy.After the preliminary work carried out by the Technical Commission, to which the Mixed Monitoring Commission has approved today, the processing of the documentation prior to the National Council of Historical Heritage begins, since its authorization is necessary to put the process of preparing the application file is underway.
