November 20. CHILDREN'S DAY (18/11/2020)

| In the week that World Children's Day is celebrated, the GALACTYCO Collective highlights the need to work on education in diversity from an early age | On November 20, 1989, the “Convention on the Rights of the Child” was approved, so on this date Children's Day is celebrated all over the world.

This Convention is an international treaty that recognizes the human rights of boys and girls, defined as persons under 18 years of age, and that obliges governments to comply with them. From the Association "Collective GALACTYCO" they insist on the great importance of education in diversity from an early age.

As stated by Alberto Alba, President of this group: “on many occasions, attacks occur not only because they are members of the LGTBI collective, but also because they present physical characteristics or gender expressions that are different from what is socially accepted, or because of diverse geographic origin.

That is why, when we talk about education in LGTB diversity, we include, of course, training in values ??of respect for difference ”.A few weeks ago the media echoed an unfortunate homophobic aggression that took place in our city, in which, when leaving a high school, a 13-year-old boy attacked another 11-year-old who had to be admitted and Surgical surgery due to injuries.

Witnesses of the event said that "the aggressor called him a fagot many times and interfered with him for that." These acts of violence by LGTBIFOBIA are repeated too often among our minors.According to the Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Trans and Bisexuals (FELGTB) “LGTBIphobia continues to be the number one reason for bullying in Spain, and if this is added to the extensive use that minors make of social networks, we add that children problems are not only at school but victims are persecuted through their networks day after day ”, and according to a recent survey carried out within the framework of the European Speak Out project, almost 70% of LGTBI people have suffered LGTBIphobia violence through social networks in the last five years. One of the rights enunciated in the Convention on the Rights of the Child deals with education (Article 29), which, according to it, “must be aimed at instilling in the minor respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as preparing them to assume a responsible life in a free society, with a spirit of understanding, peace, tolerance, equality of the sexes and friendship between all peoples, ethnic, national and religious groups and people of indigenous origin ”.The Family Member of the GALACTYCO Collective, Cristina Venegas, affirms that “it is this article, this spirit, that we believe should reach our minors, for this reason we are working on a campaign that we will publish on November 20 and with the that we want to send a clear message: prejudice, contempt, insults, harassment, mistreatment ...

must be left behind, that a re-education in values ??of respect and tolerance will allow us to unite, love each other, understand each other and support each other.

Minors have the right to do so and Public Administrations have the obligation to offer it.

Experience shows us that hatred is eradicated with an education in diversity and values ??of respect ”.Minors spend a large part of their time at school, for this reason the training of teachers to stop violence in the classrooms is a fundamental axis, to avoid that in no case situations of harassment due to LGTBIphobia are normalized, nor are they hiding under the cloak from “they are children's things”.

The educational community has a great responsibility that it must assume every day, with specific protocols of action through which the bullied minor feels fully supported and the minor aggressor can access a reeducation program. In this sense, Mar Tornero, Vice President of the GALACTYCO Collective, points out that “the Equality Law in the Region of Murcia, approved more than 4 years ago, contemplates not only the training of teaching professionals, but also the compulsory nature of training.

in diversity to all students.

However, the Ministry of Education of the Region of Murcia, not only has failed to comply with what is committed in this law, but has worked to breach it.

In the 2019/2020 academic year, he imposed the parental pin to prevent the universality of training in values ??of respect for diversity, an imposition that at the time we resorted demanding compliance with all current legislation in educational matters, both national and international, which goes in line with the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

And in the face of this atrocious event of homophobic violence,We insist once again that the regional government must urgently apply the current legislation.

"Of note is also the role of the people who witness the aggression.

Silence will always be interpreted as an acceptance of violence by the victim, generating a double aggression: that of the passivity of the environment that with this silence becomes an accomplice. Finally, Cristina Venegas clarifies that “The rejection of the aggression and the support for the victim must be explicitly stated, and not only who is present at it, but society as a whole, including political and educational institutions, as well as the media.

”.
