The new Avenida del Cantón will have a connection with the Barrio de la Concepción health center (07/11/2020)

| This infrastructure will have a bike path, which will run parallel to the main road | The Cartagena City Council has reached an agreement with the company that is building the new Avenida del Cantón so that the urbanization works of Polígono 1 can be carried out, to guarantee the connection of Barrio de la Concepción with said avenue, through the street Rosa, which reaches the health center, as well as Balcones, Nardos and Madreselva streets. As polygons 1 and 2 are urbanized and that of polygon 3 is completed, the avenue will connect with Peroniño street through more accesses.

In the same way, the project also foresees the construction of a bike lane, which will run parallel to the main road, and will connect the Cartagonova bridge with Avenida Sebastián Feringán.As explained by the mayor and head of Urban Planning, Ana Belén Castejón, “with this, from the municipal government we respond to the concerns of the residents, who are concerned about the suppression of the old provisional passage that connected the neighborhood with the bridge from the Cartagonova stadium.

This action will substantially improve communications between the neighborhood and the Alameda de San Antón, since it will have more than one access ”.ELIMINATE THE PROBLEM OF FLOODSThe City Council is finalizing the project to eliminate the problem of floods that, for decades, the Barrio de la Concepción has suffered.

Thus, to avoid the storage of runoff water in the area and, taking advantage of the drainage infrastructures that are going to be executed within the urbanization project of polygons I and II of the Rambla Partial Plan, it is proposed to execute a storm interceptor in Peroniño Street, which captures the rainwater that comes from the Watchtower, before it reaches the streets of said neighborhood. This collector, which will have a diameter of 1,000, will run from Calle Malvavisco to the end of Calle Peroniño with Calle Balcones and Gardenias and will connect to the existing rainwater network at that point and will have a length of 257 meters of reinforced concrete.Within the drainage works of the urbanization of the Rambla Partial Plan, a collector will be executed that will serve as a relief to the urbanization's stormwater network, as well as other rainwater collectors planned for the Barrio de la Concepción, and that will connect with the Storm Tank located in that area.On the other hand, two sandboxes will be built, one located on Calle Río Sevilla and the second located at the beginning of Calle Orquideas to collect the trawls from the Rambla itself.CONSTRUCTION OF IMBORNALS IN LA ROSALEDAIn addition, the execution of a series of scuppers is planned on Malvavisco street that will be connected, by means of a collector, to the rainwater network of the new urbanization and will flow into the Rambla de la Benipila and into the existing storm tank, through a spillway.

In this way, the usual flooding of the basements of the La Rosaleda urbanization, known as the 'red floors', will be avoided.“Taking advantage of the work on the new avenue, we have made the decision to carry out a hydraulic work demanded by the neighbors for decades and, in the 2021 Budget, we are going to include an item so that it can be carried out, avoiding the problems of flooding caused by the dragging of water that comes down from the Watchtower, every time it rains ”, said the mayor.
