MC Cartagena promotes actions to improve pedestrian accessibility and road safety on La Palma (06/11/2020)

| The Cartagena formation proposes to provide the new roundabout of the Industrial Estate with the identity features of the town | The members of MC Cartagena in the Neighborhood Board of La Palma will promote during the next plenary session of this management body the collaboration of the local and regional administrations for the "execution of a project that improves pedestrian accessibility and road safety both to the Industrial Park and the neighborhood nucleus 'El Palmeral' through Castaño street, also known as highway RM-311 ". The motion argues the lack of measures in relation to safety and mobility for pedestrian traffic and the use of the many services that exist there in the commercial, educational or sports fields. In this way, "safe pedestrian access" is being claimed, a demand in which the two administrations, local and regional, would be involved, since the Castaño street road is in the route of the RM-311 highway. Specifically, the Cartagena members in La Palma advocate giving continuity to the existing steelwork from the Church to the Cooperative Houses with its extension and road surface restructuring of the front façade between the old Celestino workshop and the Pescadería, to continue with the rest of the façade of the three existing lots with a sidewalk or pedestrian path and reach the 'El Palmeral' urbanization.

It would also be necessary to optimize access on the edge of existing houses in the area of ??the old drying room. Identity decoration for the new roundabout In another vein, another motion by MC Cartagena will call for an ideas contest so that the roundabout recently built on the RM-311 at the height of the Polígono "is a portico and an emblem of welcoming visitors to La Palma with allusive motifs to the history of the town, promoting the culture of the same and the revitalization of the agro-industrial sector ". In this objective, MC considers it ideal to involve associations, the business community, as well as the Polytechnic University of Cartagena as it is part of the 'Tomás Ferro' Foundation.

In the absence of a more in-depth development, the contest could be governed by evaluation criteria where aspects of balance, sustainability, safety and the inclusion of the word 'Palma' predominate, adapting its decoration to specific themes to the history of this enclave of Campo de Cartagena.
