The City Council suspends cultural activities, closes the playgrounds and limits the hours of Puerto de Culturas (30/10/2020)

| With these measures the municipal government tries to help curb the curve of infections by COVID-19 | The Cartagena City Council has decided to suspend all face-to-face cultural activities, close the playgrounds; close social venues for leisure and cultural activities and limit the hours of the Cartagena Puerto de Culturas interpretation centers, temporarily, while the health situation generated by COVID-19 does not improve and the perimeter closure of the municipality is maintained. The government team met today Friday, under the presidency of the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, and has adopted this difficult decision “following the advice of the health authorities who have warned that if the situation continues, the health system could collapse in a few weeks ”, has specified Castejón.The Jazz festival was suspended yesterday and the same will happen with the rest of Cartagena's cultural programming, which will become telematic, whenever possible and temporarily.“Our support for the cultural sector has been, is and will be absolute.

We understand that they are going through a very difficult situation and, for this reason, we are going to continue the activity electronically ”, highlighted the mayor.Similarly, the playgrounds are closed to the public and the social venues are also closed for the celebration of cultural and leisure activities. With regard to sports activities in municipal centers, only training sessions for federated athletes at the regional and national level will be maintained, although in the coming days it will be studied to authorize only meetings and training at a national level.CARTAGENA PORT OF CULTURESOn the other hand, due to the latest events derived from COVID-19, which have led to the perimeter closure of the Murcia Region and its 45 municipalities, Cartagena Puerto de Culturas will carry out partial closures of its museums, sites and tourist transport to starting November 3.For this reason, the Museum of the Roman Theater will open from Tuesday to Sunday in its usual low season hours, that is, from Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m.

to 6 p.m.

and Sundays from 10 a.m.

to 2 p.m. During the weekends, the Castillo de la Concepción, the Panoramic Elevator and the Roman Forum Quarter will be open to the public from 10 a.m.

to 5 p.m.

The other tourist resources of the consortium will remain closed. “We have been forced to adopt this difficult situation due to the impossibility of receiving visitors from other autonomous communities and from other municipalities in the region in our municipality.

Added to this is the fact that local school groups are prohibited from leaving educational centers for activities.

For all this, we only keep open the centers that have more visits on a regular basis, ”Ana Belén Castejón explained. The reduction of hours consequently affects the company's staff, so the ERTE of the Cartagena Puerto de Culturas workforce will be expanded due to the limitation of its activity. "The objective is to resume the activity on a regular basis as the situation evolves," concluded the mayor.TELEWORKING INTENSIFIESOn the other hand, this morning the representatives of the municipal workers were informed of the new measures decreed by the mayor to promote teleworking and facilitate the creation of bubble groups in the different municipal departments in order to avoid the growth of the curve contagion. In this sense, the extension of working hours from 7.30 am to 9 pm has been proposed to facilitate the constitution of differentiated bubble groups in those departments that cannot telework.Citizen services will be maintained by appointment and telephone attention will be given priority. The government team has also raised the possibility of carrying out a redeployment of personnel to reinforce those services that currently have more job positions due to the new circumstances.
