40% of the workers will need high qualification, anticipates the International School of Doctorate (25/10/2020)

More than 320 doctoral students are completing their thesis at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena.

They are engineers, architects and other graduates in various fields of engineering, experimental sciences, architecture, and social sciences.

For them, their job prospects are not exclusively geared towards university teaching or traditional research.

For many of them, the objective may be to play a role as "manager of research and innovation projects.""The forecasts for the near future is that employment opportunities, in Spain and in Europe, favor mainly those with a high degree of specialization", says Pedro Sánchez Palma, director of the International Doctoral School of the UPCT (EINDOC ).For the director of the EINDOC, the doctor who works as manager is a kind of enabler who turns ideas into reality: “it is an exciting activity that requires an extraordinary level of demand; arriving at a product or service from ideas requires a significant effort of ingenuity ”.And it is that these professionals face challenges related to estimating, attracting and managing different types of resources and managing human teams.

These professionals must reach sources of public or private funding nationally and internationally. The demand for highly qualified employment is a reality throughout Europe.

There are studies that in the short term establish for Spain that almost 40% of the workforce will be occupied by highly qualified positions.Doctors are highly regarded professionals in areas such as strategic consulting and innovation management.

They also have job opportunities in the public sector where they can hold positions in departments with responsibility for science, technology and innovation.Foundations and other non-profit organizations usually have science and technology support programs or the development of solutions for strategic sectors, requiring doctors as specialized managers to carry out their execution.

Sánchez Palma emphasizes that a new vision of doctorates is opening that goes beyond traditional research or university teaching, also encompassing the development of innovative products in the company and in the industry. The integration of the UPCT in the initiative "European University of Technology" will represent, according to the director of the EINDOC, a magnificent catalyst to enhance this figure of future PhDs given the opportunities that open up to offer quality doctorates integrated into a international framework with participating universities in the European University consortium EUt +.

The enrollment period is open until mid-November, with additional calls for enrollment during the course to make the incorporation of new doctoral students more flexible.
