| Carmina Fernández affirms that the resumption of this unit, the staffing and the necessary resources to guarantee a quality service | It also demands that the regional government carry out a dissemination campaign on prevention and early diagnosis, something that is even more necessary with the health crisis The Socialist Parliamentary Group has presented a motion in the Assembly in which it asks the regional government to urgently reopen the Unit for Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of sexually transmitted diseases and HIV in Cartagena, as well as the staffing and necessary resources to guarantee a daily and quality service. This was announced by the socialist deputy Carmina Fernández, who explained that in the registered initiative they also ask the regional government to carry out a campaign to disseminate the services provided by this unit, and to bring the importance of prevention closer to the population.

and early diagnosis of these diseases, with special attention among young people and adolescents. In this sense, it has indicated that the Cartagena Unit for the Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases and HIV, dependent on the Ministry of Health, has been serving the municipality for more than 30 years. Since mid-2019, and coinciding with the retirement of the physician in charge of the unit, the Ministry of Health has not proceeded to hire the necessary health personnel to attend the service, which is currently closed and without the possibility of attending to users who request it. Carmina Fernández has affirmed that the prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases are essential to avoid contagions, which in many cases lead to serious health problems and that can affect the entire population, not only certain groups . He highlighted that the current situation causes the users of this unit to have to go to primary care in health centers that are currently saturated by the health crisis caused by Covid 19, thus causing greater delays in appointments, in diagnostic tests and possible treatments, so this unit should be resumed immediately. In addition, the Socialist deputy has registered in the Assembly two questions to the Minister of Health about when he plans to reopen this unit and what are the reasons why he is not providing service.
