Environment reviews Sabic's environmental plans before renewing its authorization (15/10/2020)

| The General Directorate has also requested a Study of Health Risks and a Study of Dispersion of Pollutants to the Atmosphere from the company | The SABIC company, located in the Cartagena deputation of La Aljorra, is currently undergoing an evaluation process to obtain a new Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), as reported by the delegate councilor of the Sustainable City and European Projects Area , Cristina Mora, in order to verify that it adapts to the required standards. In addition to this statement, the company has also been asked for a Study of Health Risks and a Study of Dispersion of Pollutants to the Atmosphere to complement all the information, the councilor said. The mayor has expressed that "our main obligation is to inform the residents of La Aljorra for their peace of mind, for this reason we have asked the General Directorate of the Environment that, when it grants the environmental authorization to Sabic, it meets with the neighbors so that they are promptly informed of all the details ".The General Directorate of the Environment, in August of last year, required the Sabic company to renew the Integrated Environmental Authorization, therefore "the technicians of the department are currently analyzing the required documentation," Mora pointed out.The documentation required to renew the company's environmental authorization consists of information and reports on the capacities and consumption of raw materials and energy, emissions into the atmosphere of polluting substances, and the production of waste.

And it also has to demonstrate the incorporation of the Best Available Techniques (BAT's) for the treatment and management of wastewater, waste gases and waste. All this material "is already being analyzed by the department technicians and they will be the ones to propose corrections or modifications that will be required of the company so that it is fully adapted to environmental law".In addition to this analysis, the Environmental Surveillance Plan will be established, which is the document "where the limits and control measures that are going to be imposed on Sabic will be perfectly established," the mayor concluded.
