Machine Learning for a training of excellence to future professionals in furniture and wood (08/10/2020)

| The Polytechnic of Cartagena develops an Artificial Intelligence platform for the European project ALLVIEW led by CETEM | The software development of an open source platform with Machine Learning is one of the tasks that researchers from the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) will carry out in the European ALLVIEW project, which has a community funding of four million euros and which leads the Technological Center for Wood and Furniture (CETEM) of the Region of Murcia.

The objective of the project is to create the first European Network of Professional Training Centers of Excellence in the Furniture and Wood Sector, based both on dual VET education and continuous training of workers.Machine Learning is an Artificial Intelligence technique that is based on the idea that machines can process data and learn from it without constant human supervision.

The responsible researcher at the UPCT, María Victoria Bueno, from the Telecommunications Network Engineering group (GIRTEL), points out that the software will allow the identification, through recommendation algorithms based on Machine Learning, of areas of training and work development. The 'Alliance of Centers of Vocational Excellence in the Furniture and Wood Sector (ALLVIEW)' project, in which 22 entities from eight countries participate, is part of the first special Erasmus + KA3-CoVEs call for the creation of vocational training centers for excellence and the development of skills ecosystems to increase the quality and adaptability of vocational training through the development of innovative curricula and teaching methodologies.

Only five of the 48 projects presented have obtained funding from the European Commission.Researchers from the UPCT will also develop training content on disruptive technologies present in Industry 4.0, smart care environments and the Internet of Things, taking advantage of their experience in the field of training training, already carried out in other international projects such as IN4WOOD, MAKING 4.0, IoToAI or the H2020 Pharaon, among others. The UPCT will also be responsible for promoting dual learning cooperation and social integration, making its network of business contacts, international relations and facilities available to ALLVIEW to serve as a conducting bridge between dual vocational training and the world of work, with different mentoring models.

In addition, it will support the works for the official recognition of the training curricula developed.
