| The application period has been extended for this course until next December 15 and the topics range from the environment, the Mar Menor, theater, visits to museums, literature, civic culture and proposals to enjoy with the family | The Department of Education of the City of Cartagena has offered a total of 22 educational programs for this 2020/21 academic year with which, as every year, it seeks to stimulate the teaching activity, both in schools and institutes, while responding to the concerns of the educational community.Due to the complications derived from the health situation, municipal technicians have had to rethink and adapt the proposals, so that many of them can be carried out through digital means.

The Councilor for Education, Irene Ruiz, highlighted the fact that "despite the difficult situation we are facing this year, new programs have emerged that we hope will have a very good acceptance among students."The proposals are of the most varied themes such as the environment, theater, visits to museums, literature, civic culture and activities to enjoy with the family.

“For this course we wanted to give more prominence to the environment and to make our children and young people aware of the importance of helping to keep our natural environment alive.

That is why we have developed programs such as 'Get wet in the Mar Menor', 'The trees count', 'A morning in the park' and transformed others like 'The mill and the rockrose of our field' into virtual itineraries ”, explained Ruiz.On this occasion, the deadline for submitting applications has been extended until December 15, "We are aware of the extra workload of the teaching teams and it will not be this Department that increases this load in schools and institutes, therefore The programs offered can be requested until December 15, 2020.

In addition, the first quarter of the course is being a period of adaptation to the new regulations, most of the activities will begin from January, although a couple of them, such as the 'Theater in the classrooms', may be requested and launched from November, "said the mayor. Thus, environmental-themed programs such as' Huerto Pío and Mina Matildes', in collaboration with the Sierra Minera Foundation, maintain their offer and their format, while the program 'Las tres Erres' varies its format, as does' El molino and the rockrose of our field: Visit to the Zabala Mill and tour of the Rambla de Los Jarales', becoming virtual itineraries.'Get wet by the Mar Menor', will use the didactic material prepared by the Department of Education for the veteran program on this wetland and launches a new proposal that will be entertaining and will continue to generate opinion and do not forget our beloved Mar Menor.'Escolares por el Clima consume responsibly' has not only changed its format but has also unified the objectives of consumption and climate change, so closely related to each other.

This program will try to ensure that students reach a conscious, critical and supportive attitude towards consumption and be aware of its impact on climate change, through various activities and information. The 'Astronomy Workshop' maintains its face-to-face format, since it is possible to adapt the visit to current health standards. The environmental offer is expanded with two new activities such as' The trees count ', in collaboration with the CREECT Association in which they will work with the book '12 Trees', which collects the stories that Ricardo Codorniu wrote to his grandchildren with trees as protagonists and seeking to promote respect for the environment by giving prominence to trees as living beings that protect our environment.'A morning in the park', also newly created, aims to highlight the importance of urban parks as green spaces beneficial to our environment and our quality of life.

It will emphasize the importance of participating and intervening in the improvement of the neighborhood through the care of the existing green areas in it.

This activity consists of a visit to the park closest to the school so that the class group can access the activity comfortably without the need for transport and during school hours. The theater-related programs, which may start in November, modify their format in order to adapt to the new normal.

Thus, the theater in collaboration with Educateatro is transformed into 'Theater in the classrooms !!' and, using technology, we will be able to introduce the actors and their stories to schools.
