"Unexpected project for the Chapel of the Council of the Cathedral of Cartagena" (30/09/2020)

| The Virgen de la Caridad Citizen Platform criticizes that the City of Cartagena intends to settle the Chapel of the Council with a photograph | "The Bishopric reiterates non-compliance with the resolutions, exposing itself to sanctions" After 3 years of unjustified delays, since the citizens of Cartagena chose the majority and democratically the restoration of the Chapel of the Council in the participatory budgets, the City Council of Cartagena intends to install an adhesive vinyl mural on the altarpiece of the Chapel, that is, a large photography to recreate the primitive altarpiece. The Virgen de la Caridad Citizen Platform rejects the construction project and demands a modification so that the original altarpiece is restored, rejecting solutions that are not typical of a Cathedral.

Cartagena deserves an altarpiece in conditions and not a great photograph as they try to settle the question.

Given this new affront that we want to attack, it is absolutely essential to remind the public in general and the municipal government team in particular of article 40.3.C of Law 4/2007, of March 16, on Cultural Heritage of the CARM : "...

reconstructions carried out to correct the effects of vandalism, natural catastrophes, breach of the duty of conservation or illegal works will be admitted." Both the Chapel and the Cathedral as a whole fall within this precept.

So,there is no room for botch or patching in the Cathedral of Cartagena. Likewise, unlike what was stated by the Cartagena City Council on August 3, 2020, the project does not contemplate that the Virgen del Rosell, the Cuatro Santos, the disappeared Cristo de Lepanto and the Predela return to their place, the Chapel of the Council from the Cathedral Santa María la Mayor.

All of them being municipally owned and present in the Church of Santa María, we demand that the project be modified so that these Goods of Cultural Interest return immediately to the Carthaginian Cathedral. Regarding the September opening dates, the Bishopric of Cartagena has once again failed to comply with the final Resolution of May 7, 2015 for the umpteenth time.

After five years of non-compliance, it is time for the General Directorate of Cultural Property to act in accordance with established, otherwise it will be other higher bodies that rule the lack of diligence of the Autonomous Community.
