La Manga will have a continuous bike lane of 18 km in length (21/09/2020)

| It is one of the projects framed in the La Manga Abierta 365 strategy to bet on sustainable urban mobility and improve the signage and connectivity of the bike lane | Coinciding with the European Mobility Week, the new action framed in the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy, La Manga Abierta 365, has been presented, which consists of the construction of a continuous bike lane in La Manga, whose length will be 18km and it will have an investment of 1.2 million euros, co-financed with 80% from ERDF funds and 20% from the Regional Government. The presentation took place this Monday, September 21, by the Deputy Mayor of Cartagena, Noelia Arroyo, the Minister of Development and Infrastructure, José Ramón Díez de Revenga, and the Councilor for Urban Planning and the Environment of the San Javier City Council, Antonio Marcelo Martinez."It is one of the most anticipated actions, it is a necessary commitment to La Manga.

From Cartagena and San Javier we have always said that it is a single territory of two municipalities that must reach an agreement with the Autonomous Community to carry out all the actions that improve the quality of life of the neighbors.

", has indicated Noelia Arroyo, who has also explained that this measure helps to de-seasonalize, because" it meets all the conditions so that many neighbors do not come only in summer, but stay throughout year".Both the Regional Government and the City Councils of Cartagena and San Javier have agreed to this action as a measure to support sustainable mobility.

"La Manga suffers from excessive use of private vehicles that causes some of the major problems such as traffic jams and mobility difficulties, that is why we have decided to support sustainable mobility with actions that make it easier for citizens to use a healthier means of transport as is the bicycle ", explained Díez de Revenga, who has also announced that" this bike path runs through the sleeve from end to end and will be put out to tender in the coming weeks.

"Among the objectives, it stands out to provide greater security with the identification of the lanes through signaling, beacons and blue paint, as well as the separation of cyclist traffic from other vehicles.

In this way, at the taxi stop located at kilometer zero of the sleeve, a work will be carried out so that the bike lane is at the back of said stop and that when the vehicles leave, the cyclists who pass in front do not run danger of being run over.

This action will also provide more connectivity to La Manga by linking Gran Vía with the two coastlines, natural spaces and leisure.
