September 21 Date Not Forgetting (18/09/2020)

| September 21 marks World Alzheimer's Day | On September 21, World Alzheimer's Day is commemorated, a date set to give visibility to all the people who suffer from this terrible disease.

We cannot forget or fail to mention all the other associated pathologies such as genetic dementias, Lewis bodies or frontotemporal dementias, among many others. For no one was indifferent to the suffering of the users in residences, much less the burden of all the families who have to face the care of their loved ones.

Care that lasts between 10 and 20 years on average, a physical, emotional, moral and economic wear and tear that fractures the well-being of any family. And yes, women are still the ones who take care of the elderly in a very high percentage, therefore, inequality is evident in this disease, adding more reasons to meet this demand, prevent dementias, slow down the progression of the disease so that autonomy is lengthened as long as possible. We have been able to verify the terrible effects of the limitations of activities such as physical activity, cognitive treatment and deprivation of liberty and limitation of consultations with health specialists, in a situation of Covid.Historical needs only increase, all efforts are appreciated, however, they are insufficient to provide quality of life for citizens affected by Alzheimer's and support for their families. For all this, Afal Cartagena and region, one more year carries out a series of activities to commemorate this day.
