Mountain rescues triple this summer in Cartagena (26/08/2020)

| Firefighters call for the responsibility of hikers, since most are due to the hikers' lack of experience, poor planning or not carrying the appropriate equipment | Mountain rescues in the municipality of Cartagena have increased this summer, compared to the same period last year.

In 2019, from July 1 to September 30, three rescues were carried out, while this year, between July and August alone, nine have already been carried out.

This triples the figure that could increase during the month of September.Regarding the data, "so far this summer, our firefighters have tripled the number of interventions to rescue in the mountains people who could not leave areas or situations of risk by their own means", said the Councilor for Security Citizen, Juan Pedro Torralba, who insists on "the need to prevent this type of situation and for this it is very important to plan the route to be carried out in detail, carry water with you, adapt the route to the conditions of the people who they are going to do it, take the mobile phone charged and with the location activated and notify family or friends of the route to be taken ”.Along the same lines, and to avoid this increase, the Cartagena Fire Service recommends following a series of tips and guidelines, since most of these rescues are derived from lack of experience, poor planning or not carrying the appropriate material. Each member of the excursion must carry their backpack regardless of their ageYou should always carry a thermal blanket to insulate yourself from the heat or cold depending on the summer season, a whistle to make yourself heard in case of emergency, and a frontal that will help us if night falls (this material will always go inside backpack, it is not necessary to remove it, just in case of need)You always have to have enough water depending on the temperature and the duration of the outing, as well as food such as nuts and fruitAdapt the route and time to the physical condition of each personInform someone you know about the route to be takenMobile charged and location activatedIn case of emergency, immediately call the Single Emergency Telephone 112 and always keep the line free so that the Emergency services can contact and give instructions, locate and evacuate as soon as possible.
