The Cartagena City Council finalizes the project to restore the San Agustín Raft (20/08/2020)

| These works, along with the construction of a new rainwater collector, will involve an investment of half a million euros and are aimed at preventing the entry of polluting trawls into The Llano | The Cartagena City Council continues to work to tackle the root problem of the entry of polluting trawls to the El Llano del Beal county council, in which it plans to invest more than half a million euros.

With this objective, the next Local Government Board will approve the project to build a storm drain and the drafting of the proposal to restore the plot of his property in the Balsa de San Agustín is already being finalized."Our intention is to provide the residents of this county with a comprehensive solution that ends the runoff and dragging of polluting waste from old mining operations that reach the town every time it rains," said Mayor Ana Belén Castejón.The works planned for restoring the reservoir must include covering the ground with clean land, maintaining the recreation area with native vegetation, channeling runoff, and building a wall that separates the reservoir from the existing road, in order to to retain possible dragging of the slope, either by water or by gravity.

In addition, the team writing the project has determined that a topographic survey is also necessary. As a preliminary step to the final approval of the project, the Government team will fulfill its commitment to explain to the neighbors what it will consist of and how these works will be carried out.

“We want the residents themselves to have the opportunity to make contributions to the project if they consider it necessary because it is a very necessary work and they have been waiting for a long time.

The same happens with the works projected for the storm drain, which will have the opinion of the people who are most affected by it ”, reported the first mayor. The resulting project must be reported by ADIF and by the Segura Hydrographic Confederation (CHS) and sent to the General Directorate of the Environment, as the competent body.

Once the modifications of the consulted bodies have been included, the works will be contracted for which there is a budget of 150,000 euros, divided into two annual payments of 75,000 euros and an additional 35,000.As for the storm drain, its construction is planned outside the town to prevent runoff from entering the Llano.

Once approved, it has an execution period of two months and has a total budget of 383,999.74 euros.

This infrastructure will prevent runoff from the rain from entering the town and allow it to flow directly to its natural channel.“I made a commitment to the citizens of El Llano that we would leave behind the patches that have been applied for decades and find a comprehensive solution to this problem.

I think that with these two actions we have found it and I hope it gives the expected result ”, Castejón recalled.Throughout this last month, the Cartagena City Council has notified the company of the entire chronology of the actions to be carried out by the local government on its plot and has requested from Portmán Golf all the information on the actions that are required to be done on their property, in order to seek the necessary complementarity between both projects, since the municipal restoration project of the Balsa de San Agustín plot is nearing completion. For the same reason, the General Directorate of the Environment has also been asked to provide all the information available on the restoration project of the adjoining plot that is owned by the City Council. All these actions by the Cartagena City Council are aimed not only at complying with the decontamination of their property, but also at obliging the owners of the adjoining plots to comply with theirs.
