COEC prudently values ??this slight increase in unemployment registered during the month of July 2020 in the region (-0.6%), weighed down by the economic effects of the Covid-19 health crisis, with a high incidence in agriculture and the tourism sector. The president of COEC "has expressed concern about this situation of deterioration of the labor market in our region, still weighed down by the health crisis and its effects on the economy of our region." "Although July is a month in which unemployment in the Region traditionally falls considerably, with an average of 2.4% for the last 10 years, the weakness of demand after the health crisis of COVID-19 and the measures imposed by the appearance of outbreaks have counteracted this seasonal pattern.

It is the worst month of July since 2008, "said Correa. "We are very concerned about the increasingly negative effect that the health crisis is having on the region's economy.

With the data currently available, and taking together the months from March to July 2020, during those five months seasonally adjusted unemployment in the region it amounted to 7,399 people, "said the president of COEC.
