Once this installation is completed, the City Council will ask the General Directorate of Cultural Property for authorization to place the spire, for which the necessary project is already being drafted."These works in the Molino de las Piedras will allow us to finish the rehabilitation of this traditional mill in the Campo de Cartagena, which responds to the commitment of the municipal government with the comprehensive rehabilitation of the heritage of Cartagena and, more specifically, the Los Mateos neighborhood" , The mayor and councilor of the Area of ??Archaeological Heritage, Ana Belén Castejón, has valued.About the Molino de las PiedrasThe Molino de las Piedras is a traditional Latin sail mill of the Campo de Cartagena, flour type, and is considered a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) with a Monument category by the first transitional provision of Law 4/2007 of March 16 , Cultural Heritage of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia. It is located in the north of the Los Mateos neighborhood, on a rocky promontory in the eastern part of the entrance to Cartagena, next to the N-332 road that connects the city with La Unión.

It stands out for its great scenic value, since it is visually connected to Campo de Cartagena and the heads of La Fraila, Beaza and Ventura, at the same time as it allows viewing the main castles around the city. There is evidence of its existence since the middle of the 11th century.

The tower of the mill, trunk-conical in shape, is 7.30 meters high, with 4.50 meters in diameter at the base and 3.80 meters in diameter at the crown, it is built in lime and stone masonry, with lime and sand mortar coating.

Inside, these walls are plumb and have a cylindrical shape, also lined with lime mortar. The interior was originally divided into three floors, which are currently not preserved, so the rehabilitation work carried out last year focused on the recovery of spaces and the separation of the chambers using wooden floors.

Access to the upper chambers is made, after that work, by a masonry and wooden staircase. The first floor, with windows to the outside, was the room for the miller, while on the upper floor, under the spire, was the machinery of the mill, where the rotation of the blades was transmitted to the axis of the air.
