The Community highlights the Port of Cartagena as one of the safest in the Mediterranean (29/07/2020)

| Counselor Cristina Sánchez, together with the President of the Port Authority, preside over the presentation of the campaign "Cartagena, Safe Destination for Cruises" | The Ministry of Tourism, Youth and Sports highlights the Port of Cartagena as "one of the safest in the Mediterranean, which has a network of services that generates very relevant benefits for all sectors of the Region of Murcia and thus contributes to deseasonalizing the destination in a significant way, as stated today by Minister Cristina Sánchez in the presentation of the campaign 'Cartagena, Safe Destination for Cruises', an act that she chaired, along with the President of the Port Authority, Yolanda Muñoz. "Our main objective is to provide security and confidence to tourists because the Region of Murcia is a safe destination, and this is the main pillar on which the strategy for the arrival of people who visit our community is based," said the counselor. Cristina Sánchez stressed that "the Port of Cartagena supports the regional strategy 'Murcia Region Safe Tourism', as a new way of understanding tourism under the parameters of security and trust." In this regard, she emphasized that "the regional government works to guarantee tourists a safe stay, and specified that 80 percent of European tourists arrive through the port. The Port of Cartagena, affirmed the head of Tourism, is not only a cruise ship stop, "it is an infrastructure that gives prestige and places the capital of regional tourism, Cartagena, with great visibility on the map." According to Cristina Sánchez, the port infrastructure, in addition to being the entry and exit of goods, "is a fundamental tool for the regional economy, which together with the International Airport of the Region of Murcia provide quality to the destination." He also stressed that the Port of Cartagena has reached eighth place among those with the highest number of cruise arrivals, after those of Barcelona, ??the Balearic Islands, Malaga, Las Palmas, Valencia, Cádiz and Tenerife. "The arrival of tourists through the Port of Cartagena represents 77.4 percent of the movement of cruise passengers in the ports of the southeast of the peninsula," said the counselor. 'Cartagena, Safe Destination for Cruises' The Port of Cartagena is preparing to receive cruise calls and the Port Authority of Cartagena has been working collaboratively with Foreign Health and Passenger Service so that the arrival of these ships in Cartagena is safe, both for passengers and for the city.

Among the works already carried out or in progress, the adaptation of the cruise terminal to the new protocols of sanitary security, sanitary control of passengers, sanitary control of ground personnel, training for all workers who access the terminal and the quality certification. The 'Cartagena, Safe Destination for Cruises' campaign will be present in all the specialized cruise press media, as well as in the shipping companies. Cristina Sánchez highlighted that the Summer 2020 Tourism Promotion Campaign also positions Cartagena in a very positive way in order to regain the confidence of shipping companies in their future navigation projects.
