Beatriz Miguel becomes the first woman to take command of the Cartagena Polytechnic (29/07/2020)

| The new rector took office on Tuesday, in a restricted public event whose assistants included the mayor and the president of the Autonomous Community | In an act reduced in number of attendees, in order to convey prudence in these times of health crisis, Beatriz Miguel Hernández took office this Tuesday, July 28 as rector of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, becoming the first woman to access this position in the institution.The new head of the UPCT, who claimed to start this new stage "with great enthusiasm despite the bad situation we are experiencing", received, among others, the congratulations of the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, one of the few invited to the act together with the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras.For Castejón, this was an “important day for the history of Cartagena and the Universities of the Region of Murcia”, in which the city showed its power with women at the head of its main institutions: the City Council, the Port Authority, the COEC and now the University.Beatriz Miguel faces the next four years as Rector of the UPCT after having held the position of Vice Chancellor for Research during the term of the outgoing Rector, Alejandro Díaz.
