| The vice mayor and the councilor for Culture have accompanied professionals this Friday who have taken an interest in the future of the famous building, which will be used to house a cultural center | Forty professionals from some twenty architectural firms have made a visit this morning to the Central Cinema to get to know the building better before the call for the ideas competition promoted by the Autonomous Community to transform it into a cultural center.The expectation that the work has generated among specialists "multiplies the opportunities to get the best project for Cartagena to have a large cultural center for the performing arts," said the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, who has accompanied the architects together with the General Director of Cultural Assets, Rafael Gómez.Arroyo has highlighted to the architects the strategic importance that the project has for Cartagena because its location in the heart of the historic center and in a university environment will serve to promote the rehabilitation of the town and provide it with a greater cultural offer.The vicalcaldesa, who has been accompanied by the delegate of Culture, Carlos Piñana, has asked the architects participating in the visit to consult with the world of Culture in Cartagena so that the preliminary projects they present solve the needs of cinema and the performing arts to which the future cultural center should be dedicated.The ideas competition was called by the Ministry of Culture last June and is endowed with three prizes of 15,000, 10,000 and 5,000 euros.
The winning proposal will serve as the basis for the basic and execution project for a work whose cost is estimated at around 3 million euros.
The deadline for submission of proposals is three months, after which a similar period will be opened for a jury made up of technicians to choose the best solutions.The buildings object of the project are the Central cinema and an annexed housing building, for which a unique and integrated solution must be proposed, respecting its heritage values.
The architects have had the opportunity to visit the cinema and receive explanations from specialists in Architecture and Archeology of the Autonomous Community.
