The professionals of the Sea celebrate their patron saint the Virgen del Carmen with a solemn Eucharist (16/07/2020)

| Due to the situation of sanitary crisis, the traditional maritime procession has been suspended, but the mass has been maintained in the Fishermen's Association | The men and women of the sea have celebrated this Thursday, July 16, their patron saint, the Virgen del Carmen, following the sanitary recommendations, without crowds, with the use of masks and keeping social distance due to the current exceptional situation by the COVID-19.Despite the fact that the Fishermen's Guild together with the Cartagena City Council had to suspend the traditional maritime procession, they have maintained the celebration of the solemn Eucharist in Santa Lucía, officiated by the pastor of the Santiago Apóstol church, Ángel Obradors, in the Fish Market, attended by the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, along with the Master Patron of the Cartagena Fishermen's Association, Bartolomé Navarro. "It is an atypical day, but no less special", affirmed the mayor, while explaining that, "we are celebrating the festivity of the Virgen del Carmen, paying tribute to the people of the Sea, to our fishermen and together with the skipper of the Brotherhood, it is true that we have done it in a much more humble, more modest way, following the health recommendations, keeping the social distance, but for that reason we could not stop celebrating and celebrating this important day.

" This year the professionals of the sea, the military of the Navy and the residents of the fishing district of Santa Lucía will not be able to celebrate the traditional marine procession, as a preventive measure to avoid crowds due to the current health crisis situation.

"This year we will not be able to remove the virgin, it has been a very difficult decision, but I think it has been the most successful as the health situation is," explained the mayor. For his part, the Patron of Brotherhood, Bartolomé Navarro, expressed that "it is a very special day for us and at the same time it is a very sad day" despite being a bittersweet day the Patron said that "we have done our best and the year As fishermen come, we will take out our procession virgin with more desire.
