Driving schools feel cheated by DGT (13/07/2020)

The director general of Traffic, Pere Navarro, offered last Tuesday, June 2, in the Congress of Deputies some data on the influence of the Covid-19 crisis on road safety, where he stressed: "the public service will be maintained of driving license exams "during this summer period, despite the fact that the traffic headquarters routinely postponed the August exams. The General Directorate of Traffic also announced in its digital magazine on May 25: "The examination service is maintained throughout the summer period.

Due to the exceptional situation that is being experienced this year, the headquarters will carry out examinations throughout summer throughout the national territory.

"While it is true that it is a very generic statement, so is the fact that driving schools thought they could work in August as they are doing right now.

But once the summer period has arrived, the Road Training centers have found a very different situation. To this day, from some headquarters in Spain, the driving schools have received the notification that as of July 20 their traffic test places are reduced by around 70 percent, so a driving school, which with Good luck you have been examining eight students approximately every seven days, from day 20 you will only be able to examine two students.

This has happened specifically at the Cartagena Local Traffic Office, where driving schools will only have the opportunity to examine a few lucky people in the last weeks of July, adding the fact that in the entire month of August they will be able to carry out only two examination tests circulation with the same limit of students.Likewise, the theoretical exams that had been scheduled in the August calendar, three distributed throughout the month, have been limited to one, ending these exams on the 11th of the month. The chances of getting a driving license in these summer months have been reduced to the point that driving schools are in a very difficult situation. The road training centers are deceived by not being able to work as the DGT originally promised, and their businesses are already beginning to tremble in the face of the situation, since much of their turnover depends on these summer months, counting on their companies they had already been affected by its closings in the previous months due to the state of alarm. On the other hand, all the state driving schools have been summoned from the "Affected by CAPA" platform to demonstrate peacefully in front of the traffic headquarters of each province every Friday from 12 to 1 pm until the government solves the problem.

The first demonstration will be next Friday, July 17.
