Beatriz Miguel, first rector of the UPCT with the support of 77.5% of the university community (10/07/2020)

Students, teachers and researchers and administration and services personnel, the different groups of the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) have given majority support to the election of Beatriz Miguel Hernández as rector, who will be the first woman to access the maximum position of Government of a polytechnic university in Spain.Beatriz Miguel, who presented the only candidacy for the post of rector, has garnered the weighted support of 77.5% of voters, a figure very similar to that registered in the last UPCT elections with a single candidate, those of 2008, when Félix Faura obtained a 79% support."We are satisfied with the high participation of the PDI and the PAS and the majority support in all groups in this very difficult situation," said the president-elect as soon as the results were known, recalling that the elections had to be postponed due to the pandemic and that they have finally been held electronically, an unprecedented procedure."We are excited by the challenge that comes and we are encouraged by news like yesterday, the support of the European Commission for the European Technological University of which the UPCT is part, but we know that the context is not simple, the Covid-19 is even there and we will have to manage its consequences, ”said Beatriz Miguel, whose inauguration is scheduled for the 28th of this month.

"From that day on we will serve as rector team," he indicated.The professor has followed the count, which has been broadcast live by the University, along with the team with which he will direct the UPCT, seven vice-rectors, a manager and a general secretary, and has been immediately congratulated by the current rector, Alejandro Díaz.By groups, the result was as follows:- Group A (PhD professors with permanent links) with a census of 338 voters, has registered a participation of 75 %% and Beatriz Miguel has been supported by 77%.- Group B (rest of the teaching staff), with a census of 264 voters and a participation of 32%, gave their support to the candidate with 88% of the votes.- Group C (students), with a census of 5,081 voters, registered a participation of 6.8% and a percentage of affirmative votes of 68% of the votes.- Group D (Administration and Services Personnel), with a census of 460 voters, had a 59% participation and gave its support to the professor with 92% of the votes.
