| The sisters Consuelo, Petri and Isabel are the last three nuns of the Holy Family of Bordeaux who have collaborated in the integration of the families of Los Mateos | The sisters Consuelo, Petri and Isabel are the last three nuns of the Holy Family of Bordeaux who have collaborated in the integration of the families of Los Mateos and this year they close the stage.

This Tuesday, July 7, they have received the thanks of the Cartagena City Council for their work in the neighborhood and the help they have provided for years. The deputy mayor and head of the Social Area, Noelia Arroyo, has visited the nuns to recognize the work for social integration that they have carried out since Sister Nieves, retired last year, opened the house in the neighborhood forty years ago.

“The sisters have worked for integration in the neighborhood for four decades.

They have been teachers, counselors and volunteers at the service of every family that needs any type of help.

Since the Caritas workshops they have taught gypsy women and immigrant women how to read and write.

They have been part of Los Mateos since they were installed in this house, which has always been open to any neighbor, "said the mayor. In addition, Arroyo has highlighted the collaboration and close relationship that during this time they have maintained with the municipal Social Services.

One of the deceased nuns who also cooperated in this integration work, Sister Adela, received in 2012 the prior of the Volunteer called by the council in recognition of her work. For her part, Sister Consuelo, who has been installed in Cartagena for nearly 50 years, has conveyed her emotion and gratitude: “there have been many years lived of an intensity that is not ours, but of all those who have surrounded us who give us the strength to continue fighting for this neighborhood and for a world where we can live differently, together in union and equality ".Since Los Mateos arrived, the neighborhood has changed a lot, since before there were only gypsies and payos, and now immigration is mainly Moroccan, which makes their main concern and task today is the integration between ethnic groups, customs and cultures. The three sisters will receive on Wednesday, July 8, a farewell tribute from their neighbors and from the entities with which they have worked from the Neighborhood Coordinator.

It will be at 19:00 in the Church of San Isidro de Los Mateos.
