Cartagena strengthens ties with the Latvian city of Liepaia (02/07/2020)

The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, received this Thursday the Latvian ambassador, Argita Daudze, in a meeting that served to review the similarities between the two cities.The mayor has taken advantage of the visit of the Latvian ambassador to show her part of the city's historical legacy, about which Daudze has shown interest in the implementation of collaboration routes that allow Cartagena to be shown in Latvia.

Thus, she has proposed to the first Cartagena mayor to install art exhibitions and cultural actions to show the history and historical attractions of Cartagena in her country.Furthermore, during the meeting, Castejón and Daudze analyzed the similarities between Cartagena and Liepaia, one of the main Latvian cities, which has the largest port in the Baltic Sea and a naval base.

In fact, the ambassador also visits the Navantia Cartagena headquarters today, about which the mayor has encouraged leaders to learn about the projects being carried out at the shipyard.The mayor has presented the president with two albums and books on the Roman Theater and the Forum of the Roman Quarter, which have impressed Daudze and earned the ambassador's commitment to transfer them to the Latvian National Museum of Art."It has been a pleasure to receive Daudze and to have been able to share, both, very important reflections and objectives both in the medium and in the long term to continue giving visibility to territories that deserve it, such as Cartagena and Liepaia," stressed the mayor, who He has advanced that "we are going to show the wealth of our land in Latvia".Likewise, Castejón has remarked that Liepaia has "an idiosyncrasy similar to that of Cartagena, which will allow us to strengthen ties between Spain and Latvia" and has been convinced that, with the signature of the ambassador in the City Council's honor book Cartagena, "from today the commitment between our cities is stamped".
