Cartagena reiterates its right to use the surplus after eliminating another item for social spending (12/06/2020)

Deputy Mayor Noelia Arroyo, has shown the Regional President, Fernando López Miras, the concern of the Cartagena City Council for the suppression of the 1,000 million euros for social spending that the central government was going to distribute to the communities and that the CARM already it had promised to distribute among the municipalities of the region.

In the weekly videoconference of the president of the Community with the mayors, Arroyo said that this problem adds to the lack of disposition that the municipalities have of their surpluses, even blocked by the central government."The regional government was going to cede to the municipalities their participation in those 1,000 million to allocate it to our social needs, but the central government has changed the criteria and they can only be used in education, which is a strictly regional competence.

Therefore, we are talking about less money available when we continue with large expenses and the blockade of the 3.8 million saved by the people of Cartagena continues, and we continue to be unable to use it to help families and companies affected by the crisis.

”The deputy mayor recalled that this is a demand shared by all the mayors of Spain, represented in the Spanish Federation of Municipalities, an organization from which the Government of the Nation is also asked for a specific item to help the municipalities to partially compensate the imbalance produced in public transport during the Covid-19 crisis.
