The mayor asks Costas to allow beach bars to expand their terraces (08/06/2020)

| This initiative will try to avoid further losses to businesses in this sector | The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has requested the head of the Demarcation of Coasts, Daniel Caballero, to allow the beach bars that are installed on the beaches of Cartagena to expand the occupation of the terrestrial maritime public domain in order to guarantee the safety distance required. With this measure, it is intended to avoid that the beach bars, which have lost part of the season by not being able to open until June, also lose the possibility of installing tables and, therefore, of maintaining their business. The mayor tells Costas that this request is made "for the sake of helping the sector and so that they can carry out their work with the maximum guarantees.""Hospitality in general and beach bars, in particular, have been badly affected by the coronavirus crisis and we must support them in any way we can.

In the case of beach bars, from the City Council we have reduced to 50% the fee that they must pay us this season, but we need that Costas also help them, allowing them to expand the occupation and, therefore, install the same number of tables that they had, maintaining the safety distance, at no additional cost to them ”, Castejón has specified. On the other hand, the Councilor for Tourism, Manuel Padín, is analyzing with the Association of Hoteliers of Cartagena and its Region, Hostecar, the situation of the beach bars to also require the Demarcation of Coasts to make flexible the cost of the concession of use, as the City Council has done, so that businessmen can reduce their expenses.
