The mayor asks that the Irrigation Community be part of the Inter-administrative Commission of the Mar Menor (01/06/2020)

| Castejón claims that the figure of the High Commissioner is created "once and for all" to coordinate competencies, actions, timing and financing to get the Sea out Minor of the ICU | The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has requested that the Irrigation Community of the Campo de Cartagena be integrated into the Inter-Administrative Commission of the Mar Menor, which on the morning of Monday, June 1 held its monthly meeting under the presidency of the Minister of the Environment Atmosphere, Antonio Luengo.“We cannot demonize the world of agriculture.

We must work together, knowing what can and cannot be done.

I am convinced that the farmers will be delighted to be able to collaborate and get involved because they also want the Mar Menor to recover as soon as possible.

The best way to do it is by integrating them and working side by side with them ”, highlighted Castejón.The mayor has once again emphasized the need for the Ministry of Ecological Transition to create “once and for all” the figure of a High Commissioner for the Mar Menor who has exclusive dedication to this issue and coordinates the actions of all administrations, determines the competitions and set calendars and financing to remove the Mar Menor from the UCI.

Castejón has already requested the creation of this figure on several occasions, both in the Special Commission on the Mar Menor that was created in the Regional Assembly, as well as the Minister of Ecological Transition herself when she visited the region last year.“On June 1 we encountered two serious problems.

One that we did not expect, the Covid-19 crisis, and another that we knew, the bad state of the Mar Menor.

I understand that the Government of Spain is focused on the first one, but if that High Commissioner existed, we would have advanced much more on the second problem because we would have a person and a team with clear competences, schedule of actions, concrete commitments and that even would put duties to the rest of administrations.

We need that person to coordinate, who has legal coverage and a serious and concrete structure to give real, agile and adapted responses to the needs of the Mar Menor, "said the mayor.Castejón has insisted on the need to put aside the past and the confrontations that lead to nothing, to focus on the future, working in a coordinated way.

"We all want the same, that the Mar Menor recovers and to be able to give the neighbors certainty, even if they are small.

We will only achieve that if we work together.

It is already well of confrontations, let's focus on what unites us and thus we will be able to recover the Mar Menor, which is what we all want.

In the Government of Cartagena we have a clear example that focusing on what unites us, we work for what really interests the citizens, which is to move forward the municipality of Cartagena ”.The mayor has once again shown her concern about the removal of sludge, mud and dry, so she has requested a clear roadmap on who is responsible for this task, how it should be done and if the regional and central administrations have exchanged the necessary documentation on this important issue.
