Cartagena requests regional mediation so that the Government of the Nation covers the deficit of public transport (29/05/2020)

| The vice mayor has also requested instructions on the celebration of popular celebrations and the opening of private nursery schools | The Cartagena City Council, through the vice mayor, Noelia Arroyo, has requested the mediation of the regional government so that the Government of the Nation covers the deficit that is occurring in public transport as a consequence of the covid-19.

Arroyo participated this morning in the meeting of the mayors of the region with the president, Fernando López Miras, to evaluate the progress of the pandemic in the different municipalities. The Deputy Mayor has requested the creation of an extraordinary fund for the support of urban public transport, to cover the deficit generated by this service, which during the crisis has registered a drop in the number of travelers of more than 90 percent.

For this, the Ministry of Mobility and Urban Agenda is urged to set up two extraordinary funds: one for the amount of 1,000 million euros for collective land transport (bus and tram) and another of 725 million for the subway.Noelia Arroyo recalled that starting Monday, June 1, Cartagena will multiply 4 seats on 6 lines, doubling the number of buses and frequencies.

"Our purpose has been to follow the instructions made by the Ministry of Health to bet on personal mobility but guaranteeing at all times the use of public transport with a safety distance.

The offer of seats is already very close to the usual one but the number of passengers stands at 35 percent of normal use ”.Arroyo has also argued that “as CARM knows, which helps us to support public transport, this is a deficit service under normal conditions and during the confinement phase the number of passengers decreased by up to 90 percent.

In each phase we have been obliged to put at least triple or double seats on the street as passengers.

All this is accumulating a deficit in the transport that is going to weigh in the local estates ”.POPULAR CELEBRATIONS AND CHILDREN'S SCHOOLSThe Deputy Mayor has requested that clear instructions be issued regarding the celebration of popular festivals and private nursery schools, which have been addressed to the City Council to know how to act at all times. For his part, López Miras has stated that these instructions have already been requested by his Government from the Government of the Nation, which has not yet replied, and has assured that the regional administration is already working on it, so that it has clear indications when the state of alarm ceases and the Community regains its powers in this matter.
