The City Council will allocate more than 300,000 euros to reactivate cultural activity in Cartagena (26/05/2020)

The Cartagena City Council will launch a campaign aimed at reviving the cultural activity and industry in the municipality that, under the slogan 'Cartagena is Culture', will start with just over 300,000 euros in aid for local professionals in different sectors. This was announced by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, this Tuesday, May 26, at a press conference in which she was accompanied by the councilors responsible for the Culture Area, David Martínez and Carlos Piñana, along with representatives of the cultural fabric of the city.Castejón, who recalled the importance that culture has had during these months of confinement, accompanying and encouraging citizens by all possible means, also pointed out the complicated situation that the sector is going through in these times “all professionals in the cultural industry "Actors, actresses, musicians, artists, everyone, you have seen your economic activity slowed down dramatically, and for this reason, from the city council we announced the launch of this aid campaign."Among the actions that are going to be carried out, the mayor has highlighted the 100,000 euros that will go towards contracting projects from different artistic disciplines, as well as another 100,000 that will go to the preparation of theatrical programming from July to December of this year.

In addition, the campaign includes 54,000 euros in grants for music bands."We are also going to launch grants for theatrical projects, outdoor music programs and a summer program in coordination with Celebrations and Sports," added Ana Belén Castejón.The projects will be contracted under free competition and the public call will be opened shortly to all professionals in the sector, with room for all disciplines except the Theater, which has its own specific game.

"A very important fact," as the mayor has pointed out, "is that they will be able to make payments on account, and in this way we will avoid that the interested parties become entangled in the entire administrative bureaucracy."With the evidence that this has been “a complicated year, in which we have been forced to suspend La Mar de Músicas or the Mucho Más Mayo festival,” Castejón has made clear the municipal commitment to local culture since, “yes something has become clear is that culture is fundamental ”.
