MC denounces floods in the Museum of the Roman Theater (18/05/2020)

| Jesús Giménez: "The cause is twofold: a poor rainwater play and a cathedral without a roof".

The mayor claims an investigation by the Ministry of Culture | This morning, the deputy spokesman for MC Cartagena, Jesús Giménez, reported on the next plenary initiative of his training, promoted by the head of Heritage, María Dolores Ruiz, for which responsibilities will be demanded in relation to the water leaks that occurred in the surroundings of the Roman Theater. A situation caused by some works in the sanitation network that have manifested themselves as insufficient, an action commissioned by the Roman Theater Foundation (composed of the Autonomous Community, the City of Cartagena and the Cajamurcia Foundation) that has put at risk a fundamental part of the archaeological heritage of the city, to which must be added the absence of cover in the Cathedral. Jesús Giménez, has pointed out that "today, International Museum Day, we uncover that the most visited in the Region, that of the Roman Theater, suffered floods in 2019 that were denied by its management." Giménez explained that "the photographs, which have been provided to us by the Virgen de la Caridad Platform, show the flooded Roman mosaic, which makes runoff into the entire compound more than likely." "The cause is twofold: a deficient pluvial work (received as satisfactory in 2008 by the PP governments), which Hidrogea also does not maintain, and a Cathedral without cover," denounced the mayor, who added that "the damage to the Museum are unknown, and to them we must add the ones that are occurring to the neighboring properties, as well as the fall problems that they cause ". In short, some problems that "will end up costing Cartagena money while López Miras, Arroyo or Castejón look the other way," he has revealed. Finally, and in order to solve this question, Jesús Giménez has stated that "from MC we demand that the Ministry of Culture investigate the rainwater network, define responsibilities and order the necessary actions to avoid damage to the Museum, the neighbors and, of course, the Cathedral of Cartagena, which is still waiting for the roof to dignify it and, in addition, avoid these runoffs.
