The City Council assumes the powers to contract the asbestos removal works in the educational centers (12/05/2020)

| The Department of Education will start the bidding process once the CARM budget is definitively approved | The Local Government Board has approved this morning that the Cartagena City Council assume the powers delegated by the Ministry of Education, which will allow it to contract the work of removing the fiber cement covers from educational centers in the municipality.

As stated in the decree, the execution of the planned works will not imply any financial contribution by the Cartagena City Council, although it will be subject to the final approval of the Murcia Region Budget.In this sense, the mayor Ana Belén Castejón, who has chaired the Governing Board, has specified that “this means that, as soon as the Autonomous Community Budgets are definitively approved, the City Council may begin the process of contracting these plays.

Our objective is to ensure that, despite the delay caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, the schedule set is strictly adhered to so that, in the next 3 years, schools in Cartagena are free of asbestos.

”The fact that the City Council assumes the bidding powers will allow to gain agility and that the amount of the losses obtained on the bidding budget can be reinvested in repair, replacement, renovation and reform works in the schools of Cartagena, in accordance with article 3.4 of the decree of delegation of powers.In addition, the City Council has planned the execution of the preliminary plans for these works, defining the conditions and the objective pursued, thus allowing the joint contracting of the project and the work, which will facilitate the future successful bidders to select the most favorable construction techniques for the reduction effective execution deadlines.The fiber cement withdrawal schedule for these first two annuities includes educational centers:.
