The UPCT increases its scholarships by 32% and attracts 43% more money for R + D + i contracts and agreements (08/05/2020)

| The Polytechnic University of Cartagena returns to public accountability for the third consecutive year | The UPCT allocated 1,464,002 euros to its own scholarships, aimed at helping students with financial difficulties.This amount translates into an increase of 32% over the previous year, as reflected in the third Accountability Report (IRC), which analyzes the consolidated data for the 2018/2019 academic year.This comprehensive examination analyzes the data in research, teaching, transfer or social impact.

It allows citizens to know, in a transparent way, the impact achieved with the resources provided by society.Many of those scholarship students have already obtained a job, highlights the rector, Alejandro Díaz Morcillo.

The employability data of UPCT graduates show the high demand for graduates in Engineering, Architecture and Business careers in the labor market.The labor insertion a year of holder is 85% in undergraduate studies and 91% in master's studies.In turn, the percentage of employability in graduates in any of the engineering courses taught at the UPCT is 90%.In engineering masters it is 92%.Postgraduate degrees in Architecture and Social Sciences have an employability rate of 90%.

Students.

The rector highlights the 11% increase in new enrollment in the degrees of the UPCT in an environment in which each year the technological baccalaureates decrease and, therefore, the potential students of Engineering and Architecture.

  This increase has made it possible to maintain the total number of students enrolled at the Polytechnic of Cartagena, with a slight decrease in grade (-1.1%), but noticeable increases in Master's (6.4%) and PhD (4%) ).

The students' teaching satisfaction rose in the 2018/2019 academic year, standing at 6.97 points on average out of a maximum of 10.

Investigation.

In the Research and Knowledge Transfer section, the UPCT obtained significant growth in fundraising, with 17% of revenue captured in competitive calls for research and 43% in contracts and agreements.This activity translates into a notable increase in the last two financial years, basically the result of contracts with companies and the Chairs Network, which ended the period analyzed with 45 chairs.

In addition, the researchers achieved a growth of 17% in attracting competitive research grants, which amount to 5.4 million euros.

2017 comparisons with the Spanish polytechnics and the University of Murcia.

The UPCT has been measured one more year, at a national level, with the public university in its environment, the University of Murcia (UMU) and with those of a technological nature, the other three Spanish polytechnics.In the 2017 comparison, 12 doctoral theses were defended at the UPCT, compared to 14 from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), 12 from the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM) and 15 from the Polytechnic University of Valencia.

(UPV) and the University of Murcia.

The UPCT obtained 65 articles published in WoS magazines for every 100 PDIs (Research Teaching Personnel), compared to the same number from the UPC, 70 from UPM, 71 from UPV or 58 from UMU.

As for the amount of projects awarded by PDI, the Polytechnic of Cartagena obtained 4.32 million euros, compared to 4.52 from the UPC, 5.32 million euros from the UPM and 3.37 million euros from the UPV and the 0.32 million from the UMU.

The UPCT, created in 1998 and with around 6,000 students, is the youngest polytechnic in Spain.The other three Spanish public polytechnics were founded in 1971.

Internationalization.

The Rector highlights the significant advancement in Asian and North African students.To these must be added international mobility and other internationalization programs, which has led to the increase in the number of international students at the UPCT increasing by 4.5% compared to last year and 46% in the last three years.Especially relevant is the openness to Asian countries, since the number of Chinese students in official degrees has been multiplied by twelve, up to 47.In total, together with the students who carry out international mobility programs and those who come to carry out official degrees and short programs, the so-called 'study tour', the international students in the 2018-19 academic year were more than 600.

Scholarships.

In the 2018-19 academic year, 40 students received the tuition and study aid from the UPCT, which complements the scholarships awarded by the Ministry of Education.That course was awarded to 1,156 students of the Polytechnic.

Además, 73 estudiantes fueron becados por colaborar y formarse en  centros, departamentos y servicios becados por la UPCT, mientras que  201 estudiantes recibieron becas de iniciación a la investigación o de  la Red de Cátedras, formándose en I+D+i a la vez que tienen acceso al  sector productivo.

La UPCT concedió 27 becas de residencia, 11 de excelencia a alumnos de  nuevo ingreso, 4 de excelencia del Consejo Social, 1 de excelencia de  Agrónomos, 48 de ampliación de matrícula y 13 becas de anulación de  matrícula del curso anterior por causas sobrevenidas.A éstas, se  suman las mencionadas becas propias.

El informe se refiere a los datos consolidados del curso 2018/2019.En  el caso de las cifras presupuestarias y de I+D+i se presentan datos  por año natural, es decir, 2018.
