The mayor asks the regional government to reinforce the Copla Plan this summer (01/05/2020)

| Castejón requests that the beach bars be exempt from paying the annual fee and that their concession be extended for another year | The mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, has demanded that the president of the regional government, Fernando López Miras, during the meeting held this morning with all the coastal mayors, this year equip Cartagena with more members of the Copla Plan to guarantee that in the beaches comply with the social distancing regulations that are established."We cannot control ourselves.

We need help because we have more than 40 kilometers of coastline that our Local Police cannot cover alone if it is necessary to adopt special measures, as everything indicates that it is going to happen ”, Castejón has specified. The mayor is especially concerned about the local tourism sector as it is one of the most affected by the crisis.

In this same sense, Ana Belén Castejón has reminded the president that Cartagena has more than 5,000 businesses that have been forced to close by the Alarm Decree of March 14.

"From the City Council we are going to help them with the exemption of water and garbage fees, among others.

But the aid cannot be only municipal.

We need the regional government to study our uniqueness within the region, "he indicated.Likewise, the mayor has recalled that there is a large sector of Cartagena entrepreneurs who have not been forced to close by the Alarm Decree but who have not been able to remain open because they have run out of clients.

"The president of the Association of Women Entrepreneurs conveyed her concern for this sector and so I have conveyed it to the president.

Cartagena has many singularities.

We are the second municipality in the Region, we have an important tourist sector and we need special help ”, he explained. In this same sense, the mayor has requested that both the regional and national governments exempt the beach bars from the payment of the royalty this year and extend the concession one more season.

The mayor recalled that it is still unknown under what conditions they can open and if it will be profitable to do so.

“Their situation is especially complex because they depend exclusively on tourism.

That is why it is important that their concessions be extended one year, so that they can cover the losses of this season, and that they be exempted from the royalty or that they be adjusted to the time and conditions in which they can open.

So I have requested it to the Chief of the Demarcation of Coasts through a letter, and to the regional president ”, Castejón has specified.MORE ACCESS CONTROLSThe mayoress has also asked the regional government to be inflexible with the limitations of transit between provinces to avoid the spread of the coronavirus."It is important for the Region to close and I thank the Government Delegation for the measures it has adopted in this regard for the bridge because we are aware that they have made a great reinforcement in the State Security Forces and Corps device.

The Government has prohibited transit between provinces and must be respected to preserve everyone's health, "he indicated.
