The PSOE denounces the neglect and lack of action of the city council on the beaches of Los Urrutias and Punta Brava (29/04/2020)

The cleaning work on the beaches of Los Urrutias and Punta Brava was stopped without real justification, taking refuge in the Alarm Decree, which did not prevent these actions. Lack of cleanliness has exacerbated the problem of algae decomposition and its accumulation on the shore. The city of Cartagena once again demonstrates its lack of foresight in the face of the important maintenance and cleaning of beaches that it should have undertaken but which inexplicably paralyzed in mid-March, more than 40 days ago. This decision means putting at risk the opening of the beaches to the bathroom, when the time comes, exacerbating the difficult situation of the shops and hoteliers, and causing inconvenience to residents and residents of these areas due to the bad odors generated by the accumulation of material decomposing organic on the shore of the beaches of Los Urrutias and Punta Brava. The municipal government shows its complete lack of rigor, using the Decree of Alarm for the COVID pandemic19 as an excuse as a reason why these works were paralyzed.

Decree that, however, did not prevent cleaning tasks by the Autonomous Community last week in nearby areas such as, for example, Los Nietos. Margarita Cerón, Secretary of the Mar Menor of the PSOE in Cartagena has declared that "It is regrettable that the city council has decided, failing the word given to the residents, to stop the cleaning work on the beaches of Los Urrutias and Punta Brava without justification, and which, what is even worse, tries to take us for fools, using the Alarm Decree as justification for said stoppage, when at no time does the aforementioned decree limit or prohibit this type of action "insisting that" the decision to stop these determining works corresponds only to the neglect, the lack of foresight and rigor on the part of the municipal government.

" Finally, Cerón affirms that "it is shown that the alarm decree is an excuse, since work resumes in the area with the same restrictions that existed when cleaning was stopped, more than 40 days ago, since the decree is still in force , so it is ridiculous to use it to justify themselves.

" From the PSOE in Cartagena we urge the Cartagena City Council to stop "bad pay excuses" and comply with the commitments made with neighbors and businesses in the area, putting greater diligence to carry out much-needed cleaning tasks.
